Questioners: why can't you take the time to make sure your questions are well worded and complete? People should not have to guess what the question is. Also, if you are careless in your wording, spelling and details, it would seem to me that you are likely to be careless and unappreciative in your evaluation of the answers you receive. I checked the stats and about 65% of all questions go to a vote. There are a few reasons for this but it is mainly the fault of those who ask the questions. Most people try to give quality answers and they deserve some consideration. And if you are asking a mathematical question, make sure the 'brackets' are where they should be. Also, when you ask a question, questions which are similar, and which have already been asked, are shown. So quit asking about "proofs" of 1=2. And, if I see the "where is the missing (or extra) $" question, one more time, I think I'll puke on my keyboard. So Askers, show some respect. Have a good day.

I wholeheartedly agree with your statements and thank you for expressing them here.
With respect to your question, I don't think that the overall quality has deteriorated, because it was never good to begin with. It's just that the population sample is getting larger and therefore the absolute amount of gibberish is also larger, and more noticeable.
Discouraging indeed... but I'm still holding on.

Like other users, I support the idea of a Mandatory Tutorial that all users should take _at least_ once, to make explanations, suggestions and rules clear. This MT would include real examples of Dos and Don'ts.
You're welcome to the Forum to discuss these ideas and (maybe, sometimes, perhaps) engaging the actual Yamsters in our discussions--> link at the upper right corner

I agree that the quality of questions asked has gone d and that there are a lot of the same questions asked, some of this may be due to the amount of new people using yahoo answers for the 1st time others may just be because of stupid ignorant people trying to be "cute" Who's to say?

I think the quality of the questions had already deteriorated before I joined. I don't see the quality declining further as much as I do see the same "what is 1 + 1?" type of question being redundantly repeated over and over again and again monotonously.

You are so right! And it's not just the math categories either. Many "questions" are totally incoherent, others so badly written that you know the asker probably doesn't have the background knowledge to understand a good answer.

Why dont you answer some of my questions then?

You put this in the math thread. So.....

Try http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsGUBWOYxypIvzpLCX2DyRrsy6IX?qid=20060614111323AACsOvn
first.

I still have a couple of unresolved questions too and someone deserves 10 points.....they dont have very good answers yet.
I certainly agree with you about some of the questions though... that missing $ question is one of the worst truely...

Ok, I'm just answering this because I was just a little smarty pants on another question in this section regarding the distance between two points when you factor in a time dimension.

My answer was "Cleveland."

Clearly, I was an English major.

I will not attempt to answer math problems again.

I will.....

Was the quality ever good? I agree with all three of you, but I doubt that the situation is going to get any better. It is way out of hand. People are too bored and lazy.

first off..that was freakin LONG...but anywayz..yeah the questions are more stupid now because yahoo answers has been up for awhile. plus..people just ask random/stupid questions because they are bored..and can't find anything else to do.
