Give me the choice!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I will choose my helmet. Who cares how cool it is, I like my brains where they belong in my head.

First, driving or riding is a privilege, not a right. The actions, or lack of, affects more than just the operator of that vehicle, or even bicycle. A 16 year old was riding his motorcycle, no helmet, to visit his girlfriend when, as he turned a corner at 15mph, the front tire hit oil and the cycle went down and he hit his head, knocking him unconscious. An hour later, at the hospital, I had to tell his mother and 13 year old sister that he was brain dead, and then had to ask if they might consent to donating his organs for transplant. Now how cool was that? He was no longer on the varsity soccer team, his dad could not come home from Iraq to see him play, his girlfriend could not give him a hug and kiss, and his best friend could not come over and play computer games. A $45 helmet would have saved his family and friends gallons of tears and endless grief. I can tell you more stories with the same ending that involve no seat belt and no helmets. It is so senseless and so preventable.

It is a personal choice. I always wear a helmet, since my crystal ball is broken and I can't know the exact day and time when that idiot on a cell phone will run a stop and t-bone my bike. But I support the right of any rider not to wear a helmet. In fact, I encourage those stupid enough to forego head protection. I really do. There is a chronic shortage of organ donors in this country, and brain-dead bikers are generally a pretty could source of harvestable parts.
And no, those little novelty helmets don't count as "protection.
Still and all, this is a choice, and Big Nanny, the government of these United States, has no business telling morons they can't be stupid.

Not cool and all. Full faced helmets have vents, so its not too hot. Some people say they don't wear a helmet because it blocks their peripheral vision, and reduces their awareness. I find the awareness loss to be true but its very little and its definitely worth it. As for the helmet and seat belt laws in PA, the seat belt law is good, but why do we have a choice to not wear a helmet when we have to wear our seat belts? No helmet is much more dangerous. If people think they look like rebels, they need to know they look like idiots. They need to ask themselves, is my life worth an image? If you can make 1 person put on a helmet, you probably saved someones life.

I wear a helmet when riding, and a seatbelt while driving.
I an in total opposition to helmet and seatbelt laws.
I do not need a governmental nanny telling me what to do. I am an adult. I understand risks. I should be able to decide what risks are aceptable for me.
Every time we allow the government to take a bit more control, the less freedom we all have.

I guess I will continue to wear one. When I was seventeen I was riding down a township road by our farm on my motorcycle. A dog ran out in front of me. I hit the dog and end over ended the bike and when I hit the gravel the bike landed on top of my helmet cracking it down the middle and wearing through the fiberglass on the bottom side. I wrecked a leather jacket a pair of blue jeans and raised heck with the paint job of my cycle but I got up and drove it home.
As for seat belts in 2002 my brother was driving down a county road in North Dakota. He ran into the back end of a 4430 John Deere that had no flashers (it was dark) with a Dodge minivan. The seat belt broke his sternum, collarbone, and a couple ribs. He folded the steering wheel with his face and lost several teeth but he lived to tell the tail. If he hadn't been wearing the belt I wouldn't have a brother.
I think people should be able to make the choice themselves. We don't need to be looked after.

Ben Roethlesberger thought he didnt need a helmet cause "The state of Pennsylvania doesnt think I need one." Since he broke his face, he now says he'll only ride with one. Maybe the law shouldn't have to tell us to wear one, but since if it doesn;t, so people will be stupid enough not to wear one. Waering a helmet doesn't promise you complete safety, but you get more with than without. And is you wear a shortie, or an open face helmet, put a plastic surgeon on speed dial. 35% of head impacts are to the jaw.

I personally think it is not only un-cool not to wear a motorcycle helmet, but it is downright stupid! I leave in a helmet-optional state, and I always wear my helmet. Some folks think their brain isn't very valuable, I guess, but mine is VERY valauble, so I protect it the best I can. Cool? Only to those who think stupid is cool! Stupid hurts!
I also wear my seatbelt in the car.
I believe everyone (adult) should be free to choose whether to wear a helmet or seatbelt. We need to weed out the weak and stupid anyway...

Not Cool at all. I don't even think its cool not to have full face protection. Driving a Jeep Wrangler for 4 year as main trans to and from work (50 miles each way) I had MANY head on collisions with bugs, beetles and rocks. OUCH.
To each his own though, if I look around here: Flip Flops, shorts, undershirt and no helmet is what some consider riding gear..
Yeah, welcome to SE Georgia. HeeHaw

I ride with a helmet, because I have know people who were cut off by cars, not even their fault, but got injured and now have a brain injury and are like a vegetable.
I can deal with the heat better than a hole in my head. If you ever get hit in the head on the freeway by a rock or a bird, you will always wear one.

Cool?NO not cool, just a matter of choice.I don't use a seatbelt either. If I want to take my chances I will.I DON'T want someone telling me how to live. UPDATE: REX is super opinionated. For everyone that suffers severe injury in a bike/car wreck as a result of no helmet/seatbelt,there are many that live another day because they chose to go without!!!!!
