I believe most of us see government and cultural changes that we don't like, but we're complacent because our daily lives are not much changed. However, I think we are inching toward oppressive laws that both liberals and conservatives will object to and people will finally wake up.

If you mean complacent like society on a whole well its probably the fact that people like a routine. By the time people have reached the "adulthood" status alot of them have been through so much crap and disfunction that they latch onto anything that that is stable and will do anything to keep it that way... without being true to themselves they sell out

I don't think we "can't challenge our government" like communisim, but it takes real commitment and lots of time to make a difference. We're so busy going to work, raising our kids, taking care of our houses, etc. that there is not time left to commit to causes. Also, the more modern conveniences we get, the busier we seem to become.

vets for peace the problem is activism can ruin your life like a jail term or being put on a watch list by the FBI and then try to get a government job or contract or go in the service it adds up like that against you and they are disapearing folks into camps and not allowing contact with lawyers or the writ of habeas-corpus so its like a declared war without the human rights VETS FOR PEACE

I believe it's laziness. I am not complacent at all. I'll challenge anyone anytime.

We aren't complacent when it comes to challenging gov't, we are complacent in not challenging evil forces such as Islamafascism.

for a detailed answer to this question see the Patriot Act. Also, you might try a casual poll of people you know to see if they can even name our basic rights and how they would feel if the one they see as most important was infringed or denied.

Maybe we agree with most of the stuff our government does and appreciate our quality of life.
What's your beef? What do you want? A socialist state? Revolution for the sake of revolution?

Alternatively, people are generally contented with their life. Just because you are upset over something, it doesn't mean that everyone is.
