We run a Land Hermit Crab Rescue.. so if you are questioning tap or clorinated water for LAND Hermit Crabs the answer is a huge NO.
Land Hermit Crabs breathe through modified gills and also have very sensitive and soft abdomens which they protect inside of their shell. They must live in a warm and humid environment, humidity caused by moisture from DE-Chlorinated water,
The chlorine in tap water will definatly burn the Hermit Crabs gills and sensitive abdomen and also the chlorine and heavy metals in tap water is toxic to hermit Crabs and that is one of the reasons that they do not live for very long in captivity. (They need a lot of specific tank, food and water conditions)
You ave two options.. easiest is to use bottled water with no added minerals of anything/ or distilled...
second you can buy water treatment for fish.. the kind without stresscoat in it and treat the tap water.
The best option is bottled water with no added minerals or anything. Usually natural filtered spring.
That is what we use for both their drinking waters AND misting water.. washing water etc.. anything that somes in contact with the hermit crabs needs to be un-chlorinated.
Do you provide a salt water source for your hermit Crabs? They must have a natural marine or oceanic salt water source made with the same de-chlorinated water... plus fresh drinking water.
(NOW with all this said if you are talking about Marine Hermit Crabs.. which are the kind that live in the water.. then the answer is also NO tap and chlorinated water are also bad for them.. because it is also harmfull for fish etc.)

I've snagged hermit crabs on Long Island's North Shore in New York. Yet I would doubt if they could withstand chlorated water like those in swimming pools. Since they are a saltwater crab, I would say no.

No, it is very bad for them to have chlorine in their water. In most areas, your tapwater is chlorinated. What you need to do is either buy spring water from the grocery store or go to a pet store and buy a product that removes the chlorine from tap water. I can't remember what it's called but it's blue.

Better not to give it to them- it can mess up their systems. If you are using chlorinated water from the tap, all you have to do to make it safe is leave it sit uncovered overnight in a dish. The chlorine will evaporate.

I don't think it's good for them. I once killed a lobster with chlorinated water.
