I always loved capture the flag. It was a fun game, and I still play it with friends.

You could use Pinatas those are fun. You can buy one or make one it's easy. Then you fill it with candy , get a baseball bat, and a blind fold. You can make one by blowing up a balloon and covering it with paper mache (made with flour and water until it is thick and goupy and strips of newspaper). Leave a little space at the end of the balloon (where you tie it off) to fill it with candy later. Then leave it in a sunny area for one day to dry. Flip it over so the bottom part dries too after a few hours. Once it is dry paint it with regular kids paint (your kids can help you) you can make designs or just paint it all one color. Then fill it with candy on the bday and tape over the hole. Also attach a string with tape or make a pin hole and tie it on that way. Now you have a pinata and you can tie it to a tree branch and the kids can each take turns swinging at it until it breaks and the candy comes out.
Also you can just bring a ball like a baseball or football or a large ball so they can play kick ball. At a park you should have a large area where they can all run around and play baseball, football, kickball, etc. Also ask your child for ideas since he/she should know best what 10 year olds want to do.

When I was ten I had the best party ever in my own backyard.
Go out and buy some cheap, small, and fun things to put together for an obstacle course. We had kids shooting cans off tables with nerf guns and they were having a blast! Simplicity sometimes does you a whole lot better than, say, Chuck E Cheeze
And waterfights are ALWAYS fun!

You can do the oldies. Like pin the tail on the donkey. Which you could make up to pin the tail on someone else. There is always passing of the apple with you chin. Or sack races, Ballon busting. You could also get a dunking booth.

I babysat for my neighbor's 9th b-day party and we made up an obstacle course with basketball, running, climbing, all this fun stuff and they LOVED it! You time the kids and everything but don't make it too competitive or else the losers will cry.
