If you have the original CD then insert it in the drive and follow instructions.

You could go to this site and try to find the missing file:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;255058

Hope that helps.

If it says ....\config\SYSTEM or SYSTEMced this is the system registry. Unfortantly this can not be fixed with the repair option on your windows disk. What causes this is usually a virus that runs in the background of your computer and just contiunally adds entries to your system registry, with time it makes the registry to large for windows to open while it is booting. The only way to take care of this is to reinstall windows

First off, I feel your pain. The same thing happened to me last week and I had to call out tech support for my OS CD

well anyways, you need to find all of your windows (XP probably?) operating system CDs. They should be neatly labelled by either Microsoft or your dealer, and there is an off chance that they are in fact a series of floppy(3.25") diskettes. if they are diskettes that you are lucky, just put them into the A: drive and your computer will pretty much fix itself, however if they are CDs, you have to put them into the computer BEFORE THE ERROR MESSAGE POPS UP. In either case, you will have to follow the directions given to you on screen and your computer will be back to normal in no time at all.

hang in there, I'm rootin for you.

wow I had this problem and I tried many things. What I did was take it to Best Buy and had then wipe my hardrive and gave it a fresh OS install. They were able to make a ghost copy of it and they put it on cd and I still had all my data. Make sure you ask this only if you want it.

Also consider getting a new hardrive becuase the headders may be old or bad in your hardrive.

Hmmm, had this problem with an old computer too. You can insert the op disk and restart. After that Boot from that disk and follow the instructions. Perhaps your hard drive is getting old so try buying a new one

Good Luck

You must boot from your Windows CD. When CD reports that you have already windows installed, then you must choose pressing R, to install Windows without loosing your programs. If this doesn't work, then you must format your drive and install a fresh copy of windows.

1. copy the missing file from another computer to a CD
2. boot you PC using a bootable disk
3. insert the CD inside the drive and copy the file to the path of that missing file...
if your CD is H:
c:\>h:
h:\>copy file name c:\windows\system32\config\sys...

4. restart you computer

remember this method is a trick, I'm not sure if it works it actually depends on what the missing file is.
