You're a loser if you don't have a boyfriend. (NOT!)
Having a boyfriend indicates that you're moving up from childhood. During the teen years, children begin to question and challenge adult supervision and authority. All kids under 18 can't wait until they get out of the parent's home to live the independent and carefree life without curfews and chores in college and beyond.
Having a boyfriend means that you're that much closer to that goal. It also means that you've developed physically and superior above other girls who have no boyfriends. It also broadcasts the idea that you're also mature enough to emotionally open up and share things with guys, who they disliked and mistrusted just a few years ago.
Having a boyfriend also opens a lot of doors, such as school dances. To have a boyfriend is like wearing a diamond tiara on your head, so that you can tell the other girls about what you have and they don't. All young girls want to be princesses and an entourage of guys who admire them. You are special and the boyfriend is the proof. That's why you "need" a boyfriend.
But...all the girls who were loser dorks in high school are now
successful and very happy that they concentratied on learning and feeding their brains instead of wondering what dress to wear for that party with Craig or Josh.

They don't have to. You don't have to. I think the start of high school is too young. Be different and wait. Not all girls are obsessed with having a boyfriend. Most of the girls in our class aren't including me. (we are in our 1st year) There's only one girl, but she's like a wannabe slut. Don't be like her and concentrate on your schoolwork. Succeed now and you'll have plenty of people waiting when you're older. My opinion is not to get one, but ah well. That's just me, the boyhater.

A boyfriend will distract you for doing school work and other activities and it will cause conflict with you and your parents. Ok...this is coming off really negative but if you do decide to have a boyfriend wait till you are a Junior/Senior. No need for a b-friend as a Freshman/Soph

like my grandmother used to say "keeping up wit the Joneses" the best advise that some one could give you is don't worry bout keeping up with what every 1 wants from u. I was a very popular girl in school all it did was get me knocked up and i became a drop out. don't become one of those it might be hard, but get some goals and stick with them. become something you would be proud of all the "in thing" will get you is disappointment when u become an adult.lol good luck

Girls in high school obsess about having a boyfriend because they are searching for who they are and they look for that help from other people. Discover who you are first, don't let anyone but you determine who you are and who you will be.

Most young women want to be seen as "IN" and the In-Crowd has the boy friends, the clothes, the fads and most importantly...the money. The wanna-bes try and copy them, struggling to do so and oft-times failing miserably. They then become the butt of bitter and vicious HS gossip. If you want a boy friend, have one. If you don't, let him be. You're going to be under even more pressure in HS than you have been in the younger grades. You're the only one who cab say "yes" or "no" to behavior that will affect your life. Good luck, Sweetness.

There is nothing wrong with being single in high school. although it can be fun walking down the hall saying hey hey look at me with my guy. don't be afraid of being yourself. finding the right guy and actually caring about one another is what is important. a meaningful relationship is worth a lot more than three that are just fluff. good luck and enjoy your high school years.

Why do women think that they can not make it on their own in this world? It is because of today's culture. We were raised to think we are nothing without our man. I am a great person without my husband, but I do feel that we complete each other. I was a person without him and would be now, though a piece of me would be missing.
