we speak on scriptures and passages through the Bible from what we learned as children, but why are there so many versions. The Koran, the Living Word, King James and David's version, the Book of Mormons, the latter-saints of Jesus Christ, etc. If the Bible is to be the place to go for knowledge, why should we trust it, because someone told you too?

How many people have actually read the Bible? Seriously. From cover to cover. So many people now a days have never lifted a page of the Bible, know nothing about it, and yet claim that it's messages were not accurate or didn't exist. Phooey!!! There's so much "he said..."-"she-said," but no one can say for sure what the Bible really says or means.

Here's what I know. The Bible comes to us from the Hebrew prophets. Most 'scholars' reject this idea because they think the Jews or Hebrews simply copied their stories from neighboring peoples. That's pure nonsense! The true Word of God was written by prophets called of God to write down the things God had spoken and revealed to them. Through inspiration, visions, dreams, and prophecy, many prophets recorded a lot of precious information for us. Unfortunately, much of this is lost to us through copy errors or omissions, since the scriptures had to be copied when they deteriorated, and added unto. Regardless of the languages that influenced Hebrew and were spoken in Israel, the Old Testament is a witness of the teachings and laws of God to his people. All the prophets testified of the coming of the future Messiah, who would redeem Israel and all mankind. The messages of the Old Testament are to shine a light in the darkness and focus your attention on the Almight God, who created man in his own image. It is only by faith, and humility, that we will begin to understand the teachings of the Bible. Let's go back to the Bible...

The first five books are written by Moses, who was called of God to write and do all that he did, because he was to show a model of things to come. And to show the world that God was a God of miracles and power, and not just a carved image of stone. The world was already confused about the truth, Moses was trying to teach the truth to the world, but the world rejected the truth, and they still do. The whole book of Genesis is actually revelation from God. not a collection of stories from the neighbors. Genesis describes the origins and history of the world before Moses was born. Moses is recording all that he saw in his vision. That is how God did it, not the stories of men.

The Hebrews are actually descended from Heber (Eber, depending on spelling). Abraham was a descendant of Heber and was a Hebrew himself, not the father of the Hebrews. The Hebrews did live with all of their extended family in Mesopotamia and did share stories with each other, which would be passed down from generation to generation, until we forgot where the stories came from. All the other Semites (Shemites) are related to the Hebrews by a common ancestor, not just by geography. Follow the genealogies of the patriarchs and their children. They are listed in the Bible for a reason. The prophets and patriarchs and other people all wrote parts of the Bible on parchment or papyrus when it was available. Some scripture was also engraved into metal plates. There is certain proof of these plates, but you cannot see them until you have exercised sufficient faith first, and if God shall grant you the priviledge.

Through the whole Bible, from the first writer unto the last, the scriptures are written by a man who receives inspiration and revelation directly from God himself, for and in behalf of all the children of men. And don't assume that if it is not included in the Bible in it's present form, that it is not valid scripture. The Council of Nicea decided how we will read the Bible today. But God did talk to many more people than we know of from the Bible.

We know today that Adam did write a Book of Remembrance, of all his days, which is lost to us. How do we know this? Revelation! So much for the theory of the first writing. Abraham wrote a book, and gave much of it's contents to the Egyptians. Enoch wrote a book and so did many others.

Shortly after the Flood, a tribe living in Mesopotamia at the time were led away from the Tower of Babel to a Promised Land. They recorded their journeys and history of their people in the Promised Land on plates of brass. These people also had the Word of God, and a prophet among them.

During the reign of Zedekiah, King of Judah, another group of families were led away by God to the same Promised Land to preserve the precious truths that would have been destroyed in the captivity of Babylon and perverted after. These people carried away a sacred scripture engraved on plates of brass, which contained all the scriptures from the Creation of the earth to that day (including Isaiah)--Jeremiah would have been the current prophet at that time--and also a genealogy of all their fathers. They were of the Tribe of Manasseh, son of Joseph, who was sold into Egypt by his brothers. This group left Jerusalem shortly before it was destroyed and arrived in the Promised Land to begin a new civilization. They had prophets, revelations, and taught about the coming Messiah. These people eventually destroyed the most wicked part, and a remnant are left today. They are the natives of North and South America and the Caribbean. They too had the Gospel of Jesus Christ taught to them. They added to the record on brass plates and made plates of gold, which were handed down to the last prophet of their people. This record was hidden in the Palmyra region of New York state, and found in 1823. The translation of this record is known today as the Book of Mormon in English. Because it was hidden so long, none of it was altered by man.

Of course, we all seem to know about the New Testament. It was written mostly by the early apostles. Jesus didn't have to write down his own teachings. He had called his apostles for that reason. And they did not have to write them down as he spoke. They were there! They saw and heard everything. And they didn't record everything either. How could they forget that? They witnessed for themselves the power and divinity of Jesus. The apostles tried to teach the world the teachings of Jesus, the Messiah, and they too were rejected, despised, and even killed. Their teachings were perverted and altered, and even left out of the Bible.

There is an ancient prophecy by Ezekiel, often overlooked: The stick of Judah, and the stick of Joseph, shall come together, and shall become one book. And many other sticks shall be written and these also shall come together. The Old and New Testaments are the Stick of Judah. The Book of Mormon is the Stick of Joseph. The Stick of Judah and the Stick of Joseph have indeed come together and have become one book. One does not replace the other. They bear witness of each other. The Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, in the ancient Americas. Who is not letting God visit the rest of the world that he created? How can a God, who parts the Red Sea, and heals the blind, and raises the dead, not be able to visit anywhere on the earth which he created, and not declare his word to the prophets he chooses to call???

God did not finish his words in the Bible. The Bible does not contain all the Words and works of God. Neither does the Book of Mormon. God has not finished giving his word to men just because we are the ones who are blind. God has called others to write his words. And they have written it. God has called prophets today to declare his word unto us. They are not yet finished. All the other Tribes of Israel have written the word of God as revealed to them. And God will yet reveal many more valuable things to us through his modern day prophets.

They will all contain the precious truths and the holy things of God. But they will only be given to those who have had enough faith to believe the things that are already given to us. If we can't believe the Scriptures we have now, there isn't much we will believe if we're given more. The prophets of old have given us a promise: If we will read the scriptures with real intent, and having faith that they are true, and asking God, in the name of Jesus Christ, we will receive an answer.
If you really want to know if the Bible or other Scriptures are true, all you have to do is pray. Ask God to give you an answer. Be patient, and persistant. And if your desire is strong enough, you will know for yourself if they're true.

We don't know who wrote quite a lot of the bible, and there is debate still about the parts we can ascribe authorship to because they have been translated so many times no-one can be sure what the original texts said. Even if the original text was indeed "inspired by God" what we have now is so different as to be fairly meaningless.

I'm a Muslim (I worship Islam) and my religion says that Jesus, Abraham, Mohammed (peace be upon him) were all prophets from Allah. Now, not to convert you or anything like that, but I will be using Islamic beliefs to answer (since you mentioned the Qur'an). Anyways, all the prophets had been sent to tell the people of the world about what Allah wants them to do -- worship, and he will send them to Heaven. Anyways, those instructions that Allah sent were the Qur'an (Bible, whatever youwant to call it). After each prophet, lots of people worshipped, but they forgot they were supposed to worship the way they were supposed to. Allah got mad each time and caused something bad to happen. So, in an attempt to please Allah, whatever they remembered got mixed in with their own filler and the prophet that came in their time (Judaism - Abraham, Christianity - Jesus). Anyways, also, the people who didn't remember much at ALL, made pagan religions (Hinduism and the like). Mohammed (peace be upon him) was the Last prophet from Allah (by now he was pretty pissed) and that's why we deny that our religion isn't changed from Allah at all, while Christianity quite a bit, and Judaism a lot. Well, this is the Islamic version of it. Don't beleive me if you don't want to, I'm just posting what I think. I'm not trying to convert anyone. Besides, Allah made humans so they can think, right?

All holy books are written by men. As such, they reflect the deficiencies of man. The holy books all tend to have been political in origin, with different factions insisting on certain interpretations. Some would say these books are inspired by God, others would be more cynical.
