USING the death penalty will stop more crimes. If a person thinks he/she will be put to death for a crime they will think a little longer about committing the crime. However, there will be at least a few innocent people put to death, for one reason or another.

The MAIN question should be WHY ISN'T THIS COUNTRY USING THE DEATH PENALTY MORE, AND WHY DO WE ALLOW CRIMINALS SO MANY APPEALS.

First I would like to say I am Christian i believe that it is not humans right to decided the fate of another human being. believe it or not there are more people on death row that should not be then you think.... And the death penalty doesn't save peoples lives it takes lives and just because you capture and kill one rapist or one murder another will be born believe it murder and rape have been around since man and will stay until the end of man. I'm not justifying murder or rape in anyway i believe they should be behind bars for the rest of their lives but i think the true punishment will come from god.....and rapist don't have it as easy as you think in prison if your a rapist your pretty much a dead man anyway or you will at least be tortured by the inmates until you die.

False, it has been proven again and again that it will not deter someone from actually commiting a crime if they want to. Like almost everything, prevention is better than a cure. Counseling, treatment for abused youth, education etc... lowers crime rates. In the case of the worst offenders life imprisonment with no chance of parole is more appropriate because many offenders do not feel they have anything to live for to begin with. How can a nation that claims to value life end it. It's hypocricy in it's most extreme form. Taking life. Finally, countless innocent people have been put to death in the US by mistake. I for one do not and will never have that on my consiensce. (sp)

Most murders occur at the spur of the moment and would NOT be deterred by the death penalty. The death penalty is all about revenge, which lowers you to their level. We, as a society, should be better than individuals.

Murderers should be put to work FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES making restitution to the friends and families of the person they killed.
