seems americans are still a little uptight about body image. In Europe we are more open wih ourselves, and so its no big deal for a man in a speedo or seeing a woman topless on the beach. You get used to it if its what you grew up with, however I take it in most places in Canada and in the states its pretty freaky... i mean - it does look like a couple of strawberries shoved into womens panties.... but still- you get used to it.

Because they are funny. Speedos are for athletes. It would be like a middle-aged housewife running around in a leotard. Just silly.

Well actually where I was born (europe) it's normal for guys to wear speedos. Actually it's unnormal if you wear boxers. But it does look pretty damn funny.
Speedos are very tight and uncomfortable looking. Also accent the wierd parts like the bumps of their privates.
Makes them look wierd.

All the answers above and because usually it is the fat, bald, old guy that wera them, making his belly fall over his speedos.
And if they are actually in good shape, make them look like Fabio, or one of the Chippendales, which is also hilarious

They make guys look extremely desperate. And for some reason it's usually those guys that SHOULDN'T wear them that wear them the most. You know the guys I'm talking about.............
There are very few male specimen that can get away with it and I wish they'd have a law against them.
The speedo is one thing I DON'T miss about Europe. Yuck!

the reason most people laugh at guys in speedos is beacause they look like they are in a bikini and it makes them look like a girl

If a guy is fat, then the laughter is justified. If the guy is in good shape, then it is simply jeaolusy. Speedos are competition swimwear and they are worn by champions. I am originally from Europe and we wear them all the time. We are not as fat as the average American, though.

its pretty funny seeing a guy in such a femanine lookin article of clothing. well...that was the view back in the day when i was in middle and high school. now i have respect for those guys cuz most of them are athletes who wear speedos to gain an advantage on their opponents.
