John Fitzgerald Kennedy. He was intelligent, vibrant, young and rich,a war hero. His wife, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, was famed for her elegance, taste, style, knowledge. They had two children at the time ,so many young families looked to them for ideas on how to raise their children. The United States was not alone during those three days of shock and mourning;Kennedy had earned the respect of many world leaders during his presidency. Many came to the U.S. for the funeral service.

JFK.
1) He was killed. He was a healthy man (well, perceived at least) and he was very active and he was doing a very American thing campaigning. He was spontaneously killed and it shocked America. He was still very new to the office, he had been there less than three years so the long term effect of his actions had not sunk in.
2) Media played his death over and over and made him more popular. People had televisions and radios, and they could listen and see the event.
Lincoln was hated by half the country. FDR had been in office for so long that he wasn't as widely loved. He was probably close to the popularity, but there was just the energy Kennedy gave off that made the women swoon and the men admire him.

Well, that is just an opinion. No one could actually give a fact on that one really because these deaths happened long ago, in which some of us did not live in that period. The two main ones of assignation, which I have heard the most about was John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln.
William Henry Harrison set many presidential records in his short time in office. After giving the longest inauguration speech (105 minutes), Harrison became the first president to die in office (of pneumonia), after serving the shortest term (one month).

I'd have to say that FDR was missed more than the rest. He was extremely popular to the voters as he was elected 5 times before dieing.
JFK sticks in the mind because he was the most recent one assassinated. But he was not as popular with the voters. He only scrapped in when he was elected.
But being President of the USA is the world's most dangerous job. The proportion of people killed doing it in its history is the highest in any job anywhere else in the world.

JFK, definitely. Went to the Museum at Dealy Plaza a few years ago and watched in amazement as grown men had tears rolling down their faces watching a film reflecting JFK's life, only to realize that I was weeping also.

JFK almost certainly. Lincoln had not been that popular during the war, but had recaptured some appreciation by the end. McKinley, Harrison, others, greatly mourned, but probably not to the same extent.
