Do you think my co-worker lied about being pregnant if she called in sick saying she had a miscarriage at 6 months, and telling my boss she had to get stitches and then showing up to pick up her paycheck the next day following the day she claimed to have had a miscarriage, if theres any nurses on here tell me, wouldnt you still be in the hospital for a few days after a stillbirth at 6 months pregnant?

I am a l.v.n, and I can tell you for sure that she would still be in the hospital, recovering. Sounds like she needs to come up with a better excuse to not show up for work.

No. I am in the medical profession and I have worked at clinics where women would sometimes miscarry. They were advised to take certain precautionary measures, such as taking antibiotics to prevent infection, nothing in the vagina for a certain number of days (meaning no sex and no tampons, etc.) and things like that. They also were advised by the doctor not to perform any strenuous activity.

However, women do not necessarily have to go to the hospital when they miscarry. They DO need to see a doctor to make sure that all the tissue from the birth is gone, because otherwise it can cause serious complications for the mother. But they are often seen on an outpatient basis rather than an inpatient basis (where they'd stay in the hospital) and will leave after their checkup. They don't have to stay in bed for days until they've recovered unless there's an issue of hemorrhaging or in other cases.

I know you'd think it would be a huge ordeal, but in actuality it's not. The huge ordeal is the emotional side of losing a child, not the physical side (in most cases I have seen).

Well it all depends on the severity of the miscarriage. If it was severe and she lost a lot of blood then she would have to but if there was no damage just a normal birth then she could go home that early. The bad part of the whole story was her losing her baby. I don't think a physical reason would be the cause of why women stay in a hospital because of miscarriage. I would have a break down from losing a child

No, you could very easily be up and about a few hours after giving birth to your stillborn baby. Women are commonly discharged from hospitals and birthing centers within 24 hours when there are no complications. In fact, at the birth center where I work most families leave within 6 hours of giving birth, by THEIR choice. (The state law says they can stay up to 24 hours.) When drugs are not used during labor and birth the recovery is much, much faster, and a few stitches would not have slowed anything down. I have no idea if your co-worker lied or not, but it is very possible to give birth to a live- or still- born baby and be up and about the next day..

My coworker had a micarriage and she was out of the hospital pretty quick. I think she was out within a few hours. Of course she wasn't 6 months pregnant either. I don't know how far along she was. I think she had reason to pick up her paycheck though. I mean, after being in the hospital, she's going to need some money!

All she said was she had a miscarriage sometimes the baby is still inside the womb and needs to be removed by the doctor. I am not a nurse but i had a friend who lost her baby and she had to make an appt to later have the baby remove.

Don't worry about it. Your boss is not that dumb. Let your boss handle it. Do your job. Stay faithful and mind your business. Try to focus on being the best employee without complaint. Be supportive of your coworker, if she is lying it will come out. Be really sympathetic. Buy a card and flowers. If she is lying you will make her feel horrible, if she's not, you will look great in her eyes.
Whatever the case, one thing is obvious: Your coworker is not your friend!

I had a miscarriage and I was going to nursing school while having it. It was a horible pain like labor and lasted two days. But I couldn;'t take off and they didn't admit me.

Not neccesarily....you usually can leave the hospital the same day of having a DNC...which is what the procedure is called when you miscarry and have to have the fetus removed.

I would think she would be emotionally spent. My baby died at 40 weeks and it has been years and i still think of her often. And a baby over a certain weight must be buried in a cemetery. I do not believe she would be walking and not alone. Stitches I don't think so.
