We just got a 4 month old iguana. I've read alot of different things on the internet concerning their diets. I know no lettuce even though both pet stores I went to were feeding them lettuce. My question is, are the following foods alright for my iguana.

Carrots
Grapes
Apples
Spinach
Cucumbers
Green peppers
Tomatoes
Green Beans
Onions
Bananas
Strawberries
Peas
Broccoli

I used to work in an animal rescue hospital and we had some iguanas we fed a mix of dry dog food, applesauce and a raw egg. They seemed to like it....

An iguana's diet should consist of a variety of dark green leafy vegetables, but you should minimize the use of vegetables that contain oxalates like spinach, parsley and kales; although this is still being debated. Fruits should be only a small proportion of the diet.Alfalfa based is preferable to corn or wheat.

Juvenile iguanas should be fed daily and you should chop all of the ingredients into a size that can be easily handled.

Do not feed your iguana cheese. You will have to on no account feed reptiles dairy. And if you are feeding your iguana lettuce, it can be sincerely like feeding him nothing. There are nearly NO vitamins and minerals in lettuce. (My brother-in-regulation works for brand spanking new England Reptile Distributors and it is a very fashioned mistake! I discovered from the great!) Feed your ig veggies like escarole (which I fed to my iggie lots) collard veggies, and turnip greens. Iguanas additionally love green beans, butternut squash, and carrots. That you could purchase a calcium supplement to "dirt" your iguana's food with.

I run a reptile rescue and have worked with HUNDREDS of iguans. Collard greens, mustard greens, parsley, endive, hibiscus flowers. 2x's per week I feed mine fruits and veggies with supplements. DON'T FORGET THE UVB LIGHT! You can give an iguana the best diet in the world but if it does not have access to UVB light it can develop MBD and other nutritional deficencies. a great website on diet is www.iguanaden.com

Ok what you need to do is stay away from all animal protiens, they are not good for your iguana, also stay away from Spinach and Kale, small amounts of fruits are ok, but only use small amounts at a time. Dark leafy greens, such as Romaine Lettace is good for your iguana, carrots, grapes, (cooked) squash, and small amounts of green beans, as well as alphelpha sprouts (these have good amounts of all the need of your ig) are ok as well. iceburg lettace is ok in small amounts but there is no nutricinal value in it so dont feed it to them all the time. DO NOT give you ig any tomatoes there is way too much acid in them and it can kill them. and on top of it all make sure that you have a good source of water, and supplements. Not to mention a good source of heat (lamp) and a UV bulb. if you have any other questions concerning the health or habitat of your iguana you can e-mail me at xrose_of_shyronx@yahoo.com

Keep away from the tomatoes to much acid, broccoli and onions.

Definitely feed collard greens, yellow squash, zucchini, kale all mustard greens are great full of calcium and vitaminD and the rest of your list. also suggestion my herp vet made to me years ago instead of calcium supplements purchased in the pet store Centrum dusting 2xweekly, and by no means dog food that will cause kidney crystalization!
