The Nazca Lines are located in the Nazca Desert, a high arid plateau that stretches 53 miles between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana, about 200 miles south of Lima, in Peru, South America.
They were created by the Nazca culture between 200 BC and 600 AD. There are hundreds of individual figures: simple lines, triangles, spirals, circles and trapezoids and compex stylized figures such as hummingbirds, spiders, dogs, monkeys, pelicans, and lizards.
The lines are declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.

Peru, they are in the southern coastal area, there is a town
called Nazca nearby, we took a bus from Lima and it was
4 hours or so. The whole coast of Peru is desert, not the
cactus & sagebrushy kind like Nevada, but just a lot of grey
dust and rocks. The lines were drawn by digging down to
lighter soil. You can pay to go up in a small plane to see
them from the air, but there a ton of planes and the view
isn't that good if the sun isn't just right overhead. To tell
you the truth the photos in National Geographic etc are
better. But at least we can say we saw them in person.
The place that is better than any photo is Macchu Picchu....

They are in the Nazca Desert of Peru. I had never heard of them before, so I googled it and what I learned is interesting. More information can be found at the URL below.
