How long has she been home from the hospital? Has her diet changed at all-any medications?
Hives are usually a symptom of something going on internally like a food/medication allergy. They are not like a regular rash.
Take a close look at anything that's changed since baby's birth.
Also, remember that her hormones are going crazy right now as her body adjusts to not being pregnant. She may be having night sweats and what you think are hives may actually be rash. I had something similar after my last baby was born and it went away after a week or two.
As long as she's breathing okay and not running a fever (not feeling sick) she's probably okay BUT you should call the hospital that your baby was born at and ask to talk to one of the nurses or the on-call doctor if you can't reach your wife's O.B.

I understand that some women can get yeast infections from childbirth. Yeast infections can cause hives - along with alot of other skin/nail problems. My sister used Lubriderm for her yeast related skin itchys, but she did not have hives.
Calomine lotion may help relieve the itchys.
Talk to the doctor about the possibility of yeast infection. Look at the other Yahoo!Answers about yeast.

Well, I wouldn't think she's allergic to your baby! So, no worries there! When she gave birth,. did they give her any drugs? If so, she could have an allergy to whatever it was. If not, have y'all changed laundry detergent(s); are you using a diaper service? has she been out in the woods.. or BY the woods? This sounds like either contact dermatitis OR she's allergic to something she's ingested... ahd many women make drastic changes in their diets while breastfeeding AND right after giving birth. You'll have to investigate!

It could be from an allergic reaction to any creams she is using, or it could be caused by the change in hormones in her body from just giving birth to a child. Have her see her OB/GYN, he/she will probably put her on a steroid to clear it up in just a few days

Is she using cocoa butter lotion or cream? If so, she is having an allergic reaction to that.
