He was talking to his Godess. Judging from me, God is about 6' tall, dark curly hair and bright blue eyes that sparkle when He laughs. That, or the original Hebrew was mis-translated a bit. He may have been using the "royal we", as when Queen Victoria said "We are not amused".

From what I am reading from the answers given, am I truely seeing the mockery of God? Are you so confident that God does not exsist that you would mock what might be true?
The answer to the question is likely Jesus although some beleive there are other Gods. Just because I don't know the answer doesn't make me willing to mock God nor discount the possibility of a creator that might possibly truely love me as his son. Many scientist are converting for the reason that other explanations of the creation of life are further fetched than a creator or intelligent being.

God is three entities in one: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and The Holy Spirit. It is sometimes a difficult concept, but if you think about an apple, it too has three parts: the peel, the meat, and the core -- three parts, one apple. When God said, "Let us make man in our image," he was referring to all three of himself! And indeed we are made in God's image, with three separate parts that make up a whole --- we have a physical body, we have a soul, which is comprised of the mind, the will and the emotions, and we have a spiritual body which is the part of us that never dies. So there you have it ---body, soul and spirit --- 3 parts that make up our whole being, made in the image and likeness of God's 3 part being.

Genesis comes down from Sumerian myths, in which there were multiple gods - not just one god and goddess, but several. When the Hebrews took up these myths during their exile in Babylon they rewrote them for a monotheistic religion, and some of the language was not rewritten.
In the original, the gods made man literally in their own image, using their own blood and body parts.

God is a trinity (three part entity) but he was probably asking his wife if it was okay to make man in our image.

Miss Manners says one should never refer to oneself in the first person (I), but in the third person ("we"). God just has a really developed sense of etiquette.
