You will first have to file a complaint against your attorney woth your state's bar association. You will need to write a statement and submit it, you will be assigned an attorney if your lawyer's conduct is found to be questionable. There will be a hearing, and if you win, you can file a civil suit against him.
The laws vary slightly from state to state. Good luck.

I would file a grievance. Depending on your situation, if all you're really out is attorney fees, that may be the easiest and cheapest route for you.
Otherwise, you will have to 1. Prove there was a duty owed (the easiest part), 2. That he indeed breached that duty, 3. damages (monetary usually), and 4. that his breach was the cause of your damages.
Essentially, if you believe there was malpractice, you would have to prove any case you hired him for was a win-able case.
That being said, you may find it hard to find an attorney willing to take the case in your area. Attorneys hate suing attorneys that they see in court on a regular basis. Start with your state's version of an attorney grievance board.
As I put in all my posts- Do not take anything I post as legal advice. Consult an attorney in your jurisdiction.

The same way you sue anyone else, you file a complaint with the court having jurisdiction over the matter.
