depends on the virus however recently we bought some copies of defender pro 2005 at walmart....I think it was only like 14 bucks a copy easy to install and use just make sure you dont have any other antivirus programs installed or running when you install it. get all the updates online and do the full system scan ...hope that helps
also sometimes you can goto symantec.com and get virus specific fixes for free.

If you want to be thorough...
Download Sysclean from Trend Micro. Download the virus definition file - lpt491.zip.
Use Nero to create a bootable CD. Include these 2 files on the disk. Unzip the virus definition file first of course.
Let it run until it is completed. Any virus found will be automatically killed.
STOP further virus infections by installing FREE AVG7 from Grisoft.com.
STOP Spyware/Adwares by installing FREE Sysbotbd. Run it to clear system of any present spywares and immunize system.

You can use online scanners but not all of them will remove the virus. If you have a Windows machine you might want to read the review below. It provides details of the free 1 year subscription to Computer Associates program.
Microsoft also has an online site in beta.

First you have to figure out what kind of virus do you have .
Second type the virus name on the Microsoft web site and you will get some answers.
third when your problem is resolved try to keep your Anti-virus up to date.

You'll more than likely want something that can run a boot time scan of your hard drive. I reccommend Avast! Antivirus, it is free and does the job pretty well. If you choose this product, at the end of installoation it will ask "Would you like to schedule a boot-time scan of your hard drives?" Answer yes, and then restart.
If you follow the provided link, click on the desktop solutions banner, then look for the "free Avast! home" version.

well if you know where the virus is, like in a file or something you downloaded, just delete the file or program. that should get rid of it, but if not then you probably want to install an antivirus system like Norton Antivirus or like Ad-Aware SE personal [i use that one] and run a full scan, quarantine the viruses, and remove them

Get a virus scanner and install it. A good free one is AVG available at grisoft.com. (You may have to hunt around a little to find the free download on the site, they keep moving it).

You can manually delete it or you can have a nice antivirus program such as Norton AntiVirus to do the job and scan your computer for other viruses. Some ISPs provide such software for free.
