My dad was depressed as well, so is my mom. My Dad drank himself to death and my mom almost killed herself. I on the other hand am not depresed. There isnt much you can do because it has to do with chemicals in the brain. They do have drugs like prozac, that do help. Exercise may also cure depression. Stay close to your dad and let him know he has your support. Try not to get pissed at him or nething over it. Its all in his mind. You will find if you havnt already that fighting does not solve nething its better to walk away. I know its probably rough, but stand strong!!

See if he will get up and move, because you ask him to. Will he join you for a walk around the block? Will he join you in a song? Anything that makes him breathe deeper and brings up his heartbeat (not real high, just a bit), may help for a while. But if he is up and moving, then it might be easier to get him to move faster.

If that does not work, take him a snack of cheese on a cracker, or turkey slices and chips or a sliced apple, or anything that is protein (usually meat, unless he is a vegetarian) and carbohydrate. Tell him you love him, are worried about him, and would he eat something you prepared for him.

You will not be able to cure him. Only he can cure himself, but you may be able to help him start looking for the cure.

Sorry to tell you that there's no cure for depression, but there's treatment.

Depression is just like any other disease, like hugh blood preasure, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome...

Get your dad to a doctor, preferably a psychiatrist, but any doctor should be able to help him. A simple prescription can help your dad (but it takes a couple of weeks to act).

I suggest you should encourage him to get help immediately. Do this now before his depression worsens and something tramatic happens, like him committing suicide or something. While he might deny he has an illness, which is common for men with depression, later he will thank you for getting him help. Trust me, it works! Hope this helped a little!

It is not your responsibility (or job) to cure someone else's depression, no matter how much you may want to do so. You can't cure them, that's all there is to it. They need to go get help themselves. You can tell them how you feel about their situation, how you want them to get help but that is all you can do.

You cannot cure someone else. I'm sorry. You should suggest that your dad seek help. Talk to him about this problem. However, in the end, it is completely up to him.

Good Luck!

Buy him Knex. He is going through a mid-life crisis and searching for some much needed entertainment in his life, he probably, more than likely feels his life is over, and if not well pretty damn close. Please for both you and his is sanity buy him a toy.
