I just saw One Missed Call a few days ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Horror with my kind of crazy things going on. I do not know why others find himgreat. I like the way he approaches storytelling.
Another crazy movie is Ichi the Killer. Way, way over the top megaviolence...that had me in stitches...for it is basically an anime film done in live action and I could not take the violence in a way that perhaps "Seven" or "Silence of the Lambs" would affect me.

Audition was another film though that was just plain wrong. A widower has an audition to find the girl of his dreams and things just get wrong and go wrong from there. Takashi has a way of bending genres and a lot of what I expect fromtraditional hollywood stuff gets thrown out on its ear with his style of moviemaking. This movie was very creepy and the end must be seento be believed. People still argue about the ending to this day and his violence has a very heavy weight to it in this movie.
And his other Movie 'Visitor Q' I put in the same category. You may not want to watch this movie with the girlfriend...disturbing from the beginning and it just gets worse. As for the end...I have no comment.

Dead or Alive is another mixed genre movie...a sort of yakuza/zombie film with all kinds of twists and anime type violence. Hilarious for me...If you are in the mood for some non hollywood fare...give it a try.

The Director also shows up in a horror anthology 'Three Extremes'...very interesting and vaguely disturbing...like somuch of what he does.

I've only seen Ichi the Killer--an okay film much better than the manga in my opinion-- and Audition, but the reason he's so famous (aside from the fact that he's directed over 70 movies and television programs) is because he manages to direct them well, get a point across without boring the audience (aside from Audience in my opinion, but I digress), and many of his films are different than the others. He's always experimenting in styles filled with sexual content, anything taboo, and extreme violence. His endings are rather atypical as well, and people love to be surprised and experience different things.
