I think that society in any economically or technologically advanced country takes many things for granted. It is the same for the US. We have had so many advances in medicine, technology (cell phones, computers, cars, etc) yet we expect more and appreciate less. The US is one of the most diverse countrys on the planet regarding race and religion. We have 360+ million people here and we are all different. It doesn't matter who is in office, half the country will not be happy.
To echo some of the other comments - the US is the most generous country to date - helping other countries that are worse off or under real tyrranous governments. Those who wish to complain about the government or state of economy really need to take a look around to the other 90% of the world that is worse off than us. Countries where you are murdered for saying the wrong thing or worship the wrong way. We are a hell of alot more fortunate than we realize, yet we get caught up in all of the media hype and other "yeehaws" out there that take advantage of their popular status to push their views on everyone else.
In other words - folks - we are fortunate to live in the US, we have much to be grateful for - and we are perfectly capable of learning what is really going on around us and forming our own opinions instead of getting caught up in other peoples opinions.
The US is the absolute best country and I am proud to be American. So there.

American here. We have the potential to be as great as we think we are. We need to be less prejudiced, judgemental and begin to care about others both on a personal level and nationwide. That said we contribute more money and time to causes than any other country as individuals - not on a per capita basis as a nation however. Americans enjoy a great amount of freedom however many rights have been whittled away by the current administration. We still keep gay people as second class citizens, we don't have universal health care and many areas of the country are so poor and dangerous the majority wouldn't go near them. Not that other countries don't have these problems but we are the richest nation in the world and we don't help our own people out. Geographically our large size contains some of the most beautiful scenery in the world but development threatens our environment at unprecedented levels. US is a great nation that still has much growing up to achieve.

I'm American, and the US definitely has its ups and downs. We have a good constitution and a governmental structure that has done well over the ages. If you are a WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant), then America has been good to you throughout all of its history. If not, then there have been some trouble spots. (Remember that thing called slavery, and the Mexican American War, and what ever happened to all those "Indian" tribes? Oh, you're Mexican? The lawn mower is right outside.) America has also been somewhat imperialistic (Monroe Doctrine, Roosevelt Corollary) Of course, America has some good points too. We have freedom of speech and have been known as the land of opportunity for ages. In any case, America is like a person, its neither good, nor bad. I support America as a whole, president and officials included (Conservatives or liberals, it don't matter). Sure they make some bad decisions, but it's like a child: it may be a retarded and imperialistic baby, but it's our retarded baby, and it's the only baby we have, so I love it.

I like that you have the right to freedom of speech, religon and much more. But overall i think most of the americans really dont understand what life really is about. They are way into material things, they dont understand the beauty of the world. I was born in kosovo, but moved to the united states when i was only 6 and a half, i have been living in florida for more then 16 years, and am a american citizen.

I was born and raised in the United States of America. I like the USA, but it was a much better place when we were a free people. One day we might even be free again.
PS I am in the military... I fight for freedom. DO you think some of you could vote and participate before the Conservatives make us into a fascist republic?

I am Canadian.
America used to be a country that everyone envied and had a really strong economy. and now it acts like a cop policing the rest of the world. The USA doesn't listen to the UN they believe in taking in our own hands attitude (the govt not the people). They have the strongest military and its scary. Also they consume more than anyone. They are more obese than anyone. Cut back America.

America is a great country. Other countries all around the world ask for our help in different matters, then complain when we do something. Although I do think our country is in moral decline that will eventually hurt us greatly if something isn't done about it. Our education system needs overhauling severly, and many people now have no respect for themselves or anyone or anything else. I truely hope this changes.
