once you introduce a formula to the baby I would keep giving the same one. If you are worried about the cost of formula there is WIC and they will help with that. I have used both similac and Good Start and my kids had good experiences with both. If the baby is being irritable and doesn't seem to tolerate the similac I would switch. I have heard that the Parents Choice is good also. You mostly pay for the name anyways when it comes to similac and isomil..

I would stick with similac if he likes it. I started my son with Good Start (which is one of the cheapest) and for some reason he didnt like it, I tried Enfamil (which is the most expensive) and he didnt like it....so then I tried Similac and he's been on it since.....If you have certain feelings about the soy formula now would be a good time to try it though...since he just started...but if you dont care either way, just stick to what he likes

You could always substitute another formula brand, with all the same ingredients. Isomil should not be a substitute, since it is a completely different formula, and may cause digestive problems. Try one of the store brands, but check the label for content first. Its important to not upset his little digestive system because this can cause major problems down the road.

When introducing any formula, you should always do it in stages. My son was started on Similac w/Iron when he was born because I couldn't breast feed. But soon we noticed he was having a really hard time digesting it.
We found Soy based formulas worked best for him. He didn't spit up as much and his collic basically disappeared.
He's now seventeen and a music major in college with early admission. He plays twenty-some-odd instruments. (Boy am I jealous!)
But seriously, I really have to say from my own experiences, formula babies do survive just as well as breast fed.
Sure, you can try other formulas out of cost effectiveness, but just mix them in slowly with their regular formula until there's no more of the first formula left and they're completely on the new formula. It's just easier on their little digestive tracts.

At walmart they have a generic formula called Parents Choice this is what i used if you check the list of nurtrients on the side of the can it is exactly the same as Enfamil which i believe is similar to Similac. I wouldn't switch to soy if you aren't having any problems.

If he is tolerating milk based formula stick with it, I wouldn't change him over to soy unless your doctor tells you to. As far as brand names (similac, enfamil good start, etc), that is all you are paying for. Formula is strictly regulated by the government and each brand has to adhere to strict guidelines and nutritional content. My first son was raised on Walmart's Parent's Choice brand (much cheaper) and he turned out just fine.

you wanna try to avoid going back and forth with different formula because it could cause diarrhea but it doesn't happen to all babies, just some that have little stomach that are irritable. If you see that it doesn't happen to your baby then you should be fine.
