Will they now be type cast to play gay men, become comedic fodder or will they be sought after actors?
I did not see the movie myself, I'm not comfortable with the concept of homosexual/lesbian behavior - but I do not hate them or wish to change them in anyway..

I'd seen their movies before Brokeback and I like them as actors. I'm just trying to gauge the impact of the roles - seeing as how Tom Cruise messed up his image in a single jump and a scream!! The public and holliwood can be fickled.

Absolutely not. This is why they are knowns as "actors" - they are acting.
It takes a brave and talented actor to portay these types of characters - especially men!
Arts and Humanities embraces courage and talent - they will have enhanced their careers and standing if anything

Honestly no matter what the plot of the movie is when your an actor you make huge career risk when you play in any movie......... I would have to disagree with everyone who said no brokeback mountain was a VERY risky movie it's the type that could make you or break you fortunately the movie made them but believe me it was a huge risk for them for these reasons
1. The plot (lets face it Americans are still very judgmental against homosexuals
2. The thing that made this movie so successfully was not only it grabbed peoples attentions the acting was good the visuals were good the direction was good and the plot.....(
3. If they would have gotten bad reviews (from critics and movie go'ers) then they would have been picked apart "because" of the plot....
so i would have to say they lucked out..........
(i would like to say that my conclusion came from the overall rating of the move from the critics and the movie go'ers i honestly didn't like the deceitful nature of the movie i didn't feel for the two gay guys in the movie i cared about the family's that were lied to and what they put their families thru)

At this point they were both critically acclaimed though Heath seems to have received more of the accolades. I'd say they both are enjoying a career boom because of the movie. As an aside, the movie takes place in the '60s and is far removed from what we visualize as gay life today. In rural areas such as where the action - no pun intended - takes place in the movie, unfortunately, people still experience such horrors. Not that city life is fine and dandy for gay Americans. Gay bashing occurs too often for a society that preaches freedom and justice for those declared worthy by a self appointed group.

They will still get roles, no doubt. BUT lots of people (the general public) will write them off as the "gay dudes". Kinda like the guy in Will & Grace. Think he will be able to shake that homosexual tie?

Did you know who they were before Brokeback? If you didn't...
There you go! It was a great move for the two of them. It put their names out there. Look, we're talking about them now because of the movie.
Great movie by the way. HOT!

Do all homosexual actors jeopardize their careers by starring in movies where they portray heterosexual men???????????????
I don't think so!!!
life's not fare and hollywood is homophobic.
of course, much of the USA is homophobic.
We should all lighten up and let everyone live the way they want to.
love you all.

I don't think so. I think they are respected because of the things they acted through. It is an amazingly great movie, and it was very tastefully done. I think they will be respected for their acting abilities more than anything else.

They are certainly on the "don't like" list for me and several other people. I won't even be able to watch them again without seeing queers.

yes they did, they jeapordized their lives. Shortly after filming, they were both diagnosed with a terminal case of craberpes (crabs, with herpes). They should both be dead within the year

I DON'T THINK SO-THEY'RE BOTH VERY GOOD ACTORS WITH SOO MANY OTHER MOVIES STARRED IN-I THINK IT JUST SHOWS THEY'RE VERSATILITY.
