Soccer the most boring sport on earth?

I tried today to get into it, because my Americans were playing Italy and I wanted to support them, but my God after three hours of watching, they ended up in a 1-1 tie. What a waste of time! How can they end a game in a tie? No wonder Americans don't watch soccer. What a snoozefest! Boring!

you're just looking at 1 game. Any one from the US's group can now make the 16. I hope to god that you're still rooting for the US (even tho I'm english & an England fan).

Come the next stage, a draw will result in extra time, if it's still a draw it will go to a penalty shoot-out - if you have an ounce of patriotic blood, a shoot-out involving the US will wake you from your snooze-fest!

Not only that, but soccer players make it even worse by diving and crying like little fairies over the slightest form of physical contact. It's called American football, not gridiron. So American football is more boring than football? Let's see 1. I don't have to wait like 40 minutes until someone gets lucky and score. 2. I never see an American football game final score of 0-0. That's retarded. 3. I see American football players suffering REAL injuries and taking it like men. They won't go down and cry over some broken nail like football players do. 4. I see running plays, throwing plays, field goals, punt kicks. In your football, it's kicking the damn ball left to right and right to left. It's like a tennis match, just done with more people and with a bigger ball. Now THAT'S like watching paint dry. No...I take that back. Even watching paint dry is more fun than that snore fest. 5. It's the most popular sport, so what? Rice is the most popular food in the world. Does that make it better against lobster or caviar?

Yes, it is terribly boring. But I think I know how to fix that...

Sod over the hockey rinks, and play soccer on them. The action would be concentrated in a manageable small area, and you wouldn't have time to yawn while players run the length of the field.

Of course you wonder why I picked on hockey...

It's entirely too fast for my tired old eyes to follow. So I'd vote for flooding the soccer fields, and playing hockey there.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, but it's like any game. It may seem boring until you learn all the particulars about the game: history, rules, techniques, teams, players, personalities. Football (soccer) is a rich game that really brings out national pride and spirit and for this reason I'm surprised that Americans don't dig it.

A typical football match lasts only 1.5 hours (excluding 15 minutes of break), not 3 hours... ;-P

Anyway, people support this sport for many reasons, the biggest being for patriotic reasons. For many of the neutrals like me (because my team didn't get into the World Cup finals), it is about rooting for the better team of the day (at least on paper) and to witness moments of magic conjured up on the field (like the game between Argentina and Serbia 2 days ago).

Football isn't boring. Yes, it can have goalless and low scoring games. But precisely, the fact that it is so difficult to get a goal means that every one of them counts, and are considered special. People around the world talk about special goals for years and years (we still do watch over clips of past world cup goals even today). It's all about being there to witness such moments of magic when it's happening. That is what makes waking up early in the morning, or staying late at night so worthwhile.

Now, thanks to the Americans for causing an upset (by drawing against the Italians), the outcome of their group remains to be decided. This is important because it determines who the other teams will face in the subsequent rounds, in their quest for eternal glory, that is the elusive World Cup, which is so prized by the way because it is TRULY a GLOBAL tournament (played in more than 200 countries around the world -- even more than the membership of the UN), and you can only earn it once every 4 years.

im american.....i love american football and soccer.....2 different sports, but id rather watch soccer, and if u say its boring, or a pansy sport, you havent actually watched it, it takes a lot of skill...more than running into a 350lb guy so he doesnt sack ur QB or throwing a pass to hit a man....try crossing the ball to a running player, in the air the whole way.... i love it
