Sorry for the wrong posts that people have told you.

YES you can know the persons ipaddress IF HE emailed you.
If he sent you one email, then you could view the headers of that email to see the originating IP of that user. For example if your using hotmail, you can goto settings and enable advanced headers, then when you view his email you could veiw raw email meaning you would see all the header information of that email. Same thing applies for AOL.

You CANNOT know the ip address if you just have the EMAIL address. Since an email address is virtual. MSN Servers own that so you cannot know his email address unless you two have some sort of communication together. Like chatting, sending emails, sending files, anything that puts you two guys together. By a simple packet sniffer you could acheive that.

Good luck on finding the IP :)

You can find the IP address of a sender by viewing the headers. If you're really trying to stop talking to this person then all you have to do is block them.Add to blocked sender's list...simple as that!!

No can do.

If you do not want to talk to this guy, add his e-mail address to your "blocked" list so he can not send you any more. Or change your e-mail address.

But knowing his IP address will not stop him from being able to send you e-mail. He would just have to go to a different computer (which would have a different IP address) and e-mail you from there. Plus IP addresses often change, so there is not way to block them.

So it is actually a pointless question. (No insult intended!!)

Browser ----> Email client (gmail, yahoo) ----> Recipient's email client ----> Recipient's browser.

You cant find the IP address unless you know how to go into your email client server and intercept the IP address...which is basically close to hacking.

It cant be done.
