Does this player restart from where it is in a track when it is turned off or not? I intend to buy one for use with e-books and podcasts, so I don't want an MP3 player which resets the track back to the start when it is switched off.

Do you think I'm stupid enough not to go on Sony.com first? If you thinkI'm so stupid, please go to sony.com and tell me where the info I'm asking for can be found? If I was you I'd start with the obvious place of the manual and then search elsewhere.
You're obviously much more intelligent than me, but if there are any USERS of that particular Sony device who can help, I'd be grateful.
