I had that EXACT problem. I had DSL from bellsouth and I wanted Vonage. I ended up having to get rid of DSL and get cable instead to work with vonage because they have this linksys looking equipment to connect your ISP to their VOIP, but somehow DSL was not working for it.

The best way to find out is to call vonage and then ask them if you can use their service using DSL. Tell them what kind of connection you are using....USB....ethernet... fiberoptics and they can tell you.

Edit: The problem I had was that DSL uses a landline. You cant disconnect your phone. I didnt see the point of getting Vonage if I couldnt get rid of my landline since vonage is a telephone service through your DSL/cable.

You can use Vonage using DSL, the connection problem is not the issue, but you would need an active landline anyway to continue using your DSL.

In your title, you are asking whether you can use Vonage (a VoIP service) with your AT&T DSL internet connection. The answer is yes though it is recommended you get broadband internet if you are planning to use an internet phone service as DSL speeds might not produce best quality calls.

In your text, you are asking whether you can use DSL without basic phone service. The answer to this is yes, there is not reason why DSL cannot be used if you dont have a phone service. It might be AT&T's policy that you must have a phone service for some reason or another, however, you do not require basic phone service for DSL. Only dialup internet requires a basic phone service.

The bottom line: You will be able to use Vonage with a DSL internet connection, however that connection my not be from AT&T due to their policy or mediocre requirements. Try using another DSL company.

check if dsl dryloop is available already- this means that you can have sbc dsl even if you don't have the phone service with sbc-

if you really wanted dsl as your ISP then you will have to wait for them to release dsl dryloop
