Why not become an athiest? Coming from what?
To give you my opinion, it's because faith in God is comforting. If you'd like less comfort in your life...become an athiest. They do seem to be pretty bitter people, and tend to be negative to me even when they don't know my faith. They tend to make rash generalizations about religions they know bits and peices about, making up what they don't know into some kind of factual accusation. They tend to be whiners, and intolerant jerks of people who do have faith. Interrupting someone's prayer or political convictions is not only disrespectful but rude. Christians are told by God to share their faith. No one tells an athiest to share, nor do they ask them to share, they just feel it's their 'right' to annoy you.

why should you be part of a religion is the ?, If there were a god, why is there so much death in wars, babies being killed, heads cut off, and it goes on and on. There will never be peace on this earth as long as religion is around. There should be a total split between religion and government. The government has no business telling us if we should have an abortion or not, who gets married to who and that goes on and on also. These are all chooses that we the people should be allowed to make without any interference from the church or government. But the Church's put all kinds of pressure on the gov. get rid of the churches and give us back our freedoms.

because you can't possibly be so arrogant to say you have searched the farthest realm of the universe and discovered that there is no God. If you have then you are God. If you haven't the best you can say is that you don't know, and that makes you an agnostic, not an atheist. There is no such thing as a true atheist.

It's good to believe in something, but in the end it's up to you. What do you really believe, that's what matters. It's better that way then to follow the beliefs of others blindly. Seek and you shall find...
There's nothing wrong with being an atheist though. Contrary to popular belief, I believe the Great Spirit, God, whatever name you wish to give the cosmic Consciousness...will still love you regardless, because that energy runs through everyone and everything, it is everyone and everything...

To truly be an atheist one must believe in the core of their soul that there is no divine plan, that chaos charts the path of the cosmos, and that the rule of existence is dumb luck, coincidences, and its every "man" for himself.
They must believe that there is no spiritual force in the universe who can help them or cares about them. They must believe they are truly alone and that they must get by alone on the power of THEIR intellect, the force of THEIR personal will, and the intensity of THEIR personal desires.
Once you have achieved this perspective then YOU will be the only God in your universe and Lucifer will allow you to keep your illusion until he needs you for his rowing team on the Lake of Fire.
Now can a person be experiencing an atheistic moment and avoid joining the devil's team? Certainly, for we can all harbor doubts about the wisdom of our chosen religion or our friends or our religious leaders WITHOUT giving up all hope of a nebulous, undefinable, divine energy looking out for our well-being.
Have an atheistic moment and re-sort what you believe - that's great.
Become a true atheist and be the only God in your world and you will truly be alone (and if you do, your guardian angel will become EXTREMELY disappointed by the fact that you will NEVER, under ANY circumstances, listen to it or call on it or allow it to help you).

Because you subject yourself to harrassment from attached social stigmas from other more dominant religions in your enviornment. One can be an atheist and not have a deity and be labeled. For example, I am not Christian yet I live in a predominantly Christian soceity. I choose to not let it be known that my belief is outside the mainstream because people of strict devoted faith can be vicious! Furthermore, most religions are based in theory so why invest alot of energy in theory when it can be best spent in reality?

Its your choice, but from my own point of view believing in the creator,God, and his son Jesus Christ means hope and salvation from all the bad things that are happening in this world. The question should be is why should you be an atheist? I know its difficult to believe in something we can't see or touch, but that's part of the master plan, if we have faith in something we can't see now, it will be much easier when we do see the creator later when we no longer in our flesh.

Your question belies a belief in morality; it suggests you see at least some of your actions and "choices" as "wrong" and "right", "should" and "shouldn't", "good" and "bad"... Disbelief in a deity certainly does not require abandonment of such ingrained moral beliefs; however, until/unless you are prepared either to accept/ignore that your rationalization and justification mechanisms are desperately inconsistent, or to re-evaluate your entire decision- and choice-making day-to-day coping mechanisms, I would strongly urge you at least to consider agnosticism before taking up the atheistic banner with gusto.

create your own beliefs, I don't think anyone really believe there isn't anything higher, or greater in the universe, you have to feel that there is something, I bet if an atheist go into a car crash the first thing there going to shout is gods name, so no one is truly atheist, i believe, I just think they're stubborn and don't want to acknowledge him, so create your on belief

Religion is a personal decision. You shouldn't be on Yahoo! Answers looking for spiritual guidance. Either you believe in God, or you don't. There's not really an inbetween.
