Anime is the toilet bowl of animation.

Everyone is entitled with their own opinions so here is mine.

The style is what makes anime 'anime'. It is known for its incredibily huge eyes and colorful hair. But thats not even half of it. I like anime because it tells a solid story that you wouldnt normally get from American cartoons that tend to have a different thing going on in each episode. Anime suceeds in suspense and just keeps the view watching. The story usually applies to the person in some way and provides a more realistic situation at times. From a source i read somewhere sometime ago, the characteristics of the people maybe created by someone else, but some characters like the school girls are based off of how they really act in Japan. Its just like reading a book. We read it for the story and that is what makes it entertaining just like anime.

I love anime. The stories may start out simply and sometimes silly but I've found that if you stay with it to the end you'll be very surprised. Take "Chrono Crusade". At first glance its a lighthearted comedy about 1930's ghostbusters squad with nuns. But by the end it become very dark apocalystic tale with serveral main characters dying. In America we aren't used to seeing animation that's for adults. Nor are we used to sad endings. We dread them. but in the Japanese culture these are accepted.

People that tell me its boring and uninteresting have only seen what's on TV. Pokemon,Naruto,Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z. A lot of these have been edited. The stories changed to fit the american market. And are directed to kids. To really see anime you have to get Netflix and watch the a series uncut from start to finish. Get something that interest you. Horror,Sci fi, Fantasy ,etc and really give it a try.

Quite frankly, I think that you are overgeneralizing beyond belief. I think that there are many, many different kinds of Anime series and film, between which you may find some that are just plain silly, some that are very deeply introspective, some that do serious social commentary and some that just don't say much at all. In my opinion, saying that Anime is boring and uninteresting is just like saying "Why all this fascination with movies? I think they are boring and uninteresting". I think you could better say. I think that the following list of Anime titles are boring and uninteresting. But dismissing a whole genre of animation, that itself is composed of far, far too many subgenres is waaaaay too simplistic in my opinion.

In native language:

Anime = any animation.
So is Spongebob anime? To the Japanese, it is.

And you can't group off all of anime, that would be the same as saying all video games are boring, all books are boring, all geeks can't get in with society and stuff.

Anyways, while most American Cartoons tried to appeal to children, the Japanese had more target's in mind. Like Action? Hunter x Hunter. Want to buy something for young children? Crayon Shin shin. Want a more romantic, mature, comedy? Love Hina. Something more psychological? Kino no Tabi. And so on, there's something for everyone....

Most anime run on a low amount of frames a second unlike most American animation, I guess that's what it ticks most people off.

Oh, and note, Anime is inspired by Disney.

maybe you just watched some pretty boring kinds of anime. there are still many animes out there. i think anime is interesting because of the character design n they aren't always made just 4 kids. even most of popular anime now are targeted to teenagers audience. n they're also more logical (though there're some that aren't) n the world in anime isn't just a black-white area (it's not about the races ok? what i mean is good & bad) that we find in all cartoons in Cartoon Network or Nicktoons. There is also grey area. n mostly that i like about story in anime is so humane n it even has the explaination why the villain becomes a bad person though before she/he used to be a good person

The reason Anime is popular is because those guys in Japan are the worlds top animators. Anime is a way of life in Japan. Everywhere you go you in Tokyo you find animation. (ex. on signs, buses, trains, commercials, magazines, etc.) I personally feel that Anime is great, but that is not to say that I do not respect you for your opinion. We each have things that we like or dislike and each of us need to understand that everyone is different. Have a great day!

You are completely right!
Anime is nothing more than cheap soap operas with no concrete plot. The reason why most people like anime could be because most of them do include homosexuality--somehow some people find that intriguing.
It's absolutely pathetic. And you are right: it's boring and uninteresting.

It tends to be much more realistic than American cartoons. Anime usually has a plot, characters who actually look like humans, and is just overall more appealing. Take cartoons from Cartoon Network or the Disney Channels... all the American ones are so stupid you can feel your IQ dropping. There are a few poor anime shows, of course, but not nearly as many as American.

Its a matter of personall taste. In Japan Anime is almost as wide spread as their live action movies. Anime started when japanese artists tried to make characters like Disney had been for many years. The large eyes and unique hair styles are main differences in style in order to reconize which character is which. A lot of people just like the attractive girls, or vivid violence found in most anime.

FYI: on my dads account

I dont find anime boring in anyway at all. It's got comedy, fantasy, romance, action and more. I absolutly love anime. Maybe you just havent seen any GOOD animes. It depends on which ones you see. Like plenty I've seen I didnt like, but there are plenty I do like. Such as Naruto, Inuyasha, FMA, D.N.Angel, and Fruits Basket. It really does depend on which ones you see. For action, Inuyasha and FMA. Fantasy and romance: Fruits Basket and D.N.Angel.

There's nothing boring and uninteresting about it. But it's your opinion, and this is mine. Hopefully this made you look at it a different way. Open the way to having fun, another way.
