With the Italian ref scandal, the recent example of badly flawed judging in figure skating just a few years ago and the abysmal refing at the world cup, especially in the american-italian game, the ability to sub out a ref seems to be an idea that may become necessary.

the game today was kinda wack with the ref stuff. but i think that if they could sub out refs, that would undermine the ref's authority. also, another problem would come in about who has the right and descretion of removing a ref...and therefore would it be right to remove that person making the decision and so on.

the ref from today's game though probably wont be making another appearance in these games. this guy was actually suspended 5 years ago for bad calls.

If that were the case then whichever team is not doing well would demand the referee be removed for whatever reason they can come up with. The ref is the official in the match and you can't just decide that he should go because he makes some wrong decisions.

Yes, they should have a ref committee to analyze every action the ref does. In fact, this one is kinda dumb, but I saw a Paraguay vs Spain match in France 98' where one of the Paraguayan players was going to take a corner kick, but just before the whistle blew to get things going, the player motioned to the ref to come over to say something to him. As the ref was coming over to answer, he lifted up the yellow card, then enquired what the player wanted. It was so dumb, I wish I was that player so I can ram that card down his throat to teach him a lesson...talk about ill manners.

I just read somewhere that Americans play dirty. I don't think that you were watching the proper game. What do you call De Rossi's hit on Mcbride ? As for the bad ref, he shouldn't be reffing anymore

baby, not because american players played dirty means you have to give the ref a red card too.
