Ok, my parents won't let me wear any sleevless shirts. OMG! They will never let me wear any spaghetti strap shirts, because "they are too sleezy". nor will they let me wear thin, tight figure showing clothes. they also wont let me wear any shirts that say abercrombie or aeropostale! I had to almost persuade them to buy me a mini skirt and shorts. I can't wait until i can move out of my house! I know this is just part of being a teenager, but really man, i feel so awkward around everyone else! Can I some how persuade them! Some people might say," just stick with your style", but really it isnt my style! What can i tell them to make them believe differently? Please help!

Okay, I understand, my parents are the same way. Perhaps they would allow you to say, wear a shrug over your spaghetti strapped tank top. Or perhaps if you exposed them to the advertising, and looked for clean, just cute aeropostale shirts, then they might be able to deal with your choices. You really can't persuade them, and they are, believe it or not doing it because they love you. As for the tight clothing thing, well, frankly, would you rather be seen for who you are, the person inside, or the person outside.?

Hey, listen, i know you want your own style and I do sometimes to, but you have to realize your parents might be a little bit overprotecting you but hear what i have to say. They want you to dress more modestly is cause they love you, love you? i know crazy answer but let me explain my reasons. First of all there are tons of creeps out there that look at that kinda stuff, and alot of women, and young women have been hurt because of the way the dress. Also is because your there daughter and they dont want you to grow up to fast. Ok i dont wear sleavless shirts or mini-skirts but i do wear spagehtii straps. Just talk with your parents about it exlplain why, they will listen.

I would try sitting down with them and calmly telling them how you feel and that you understand they are only trying to protect you. Then see if they will compromise on some things. Like maybe a tank top with jeans so that not too much skin is showing, things like that. My friend had this same problem with her parents when we were in high school. Eventually they relaxed some and even let her get a bikini, which she thought would never happen. Good Luck , I know it can be tough.

Your parents are your parents mine won't let me cut my hair too short and they won't let me wear that stuff either. But they are doing for your own good. They want you to look pretty but they don't want you to dress bad beacuse it might attrack the wrong type of people. Find a style you like and make sure your parents agree. And it isn't always best to fit in.

How old are you. I am older, and in a class now, with many students around the age of 20, one is a young lady, 19, who is wearing those low rider pants and halter tops to class. One of the young men in the class, complained bacause he finds it difficult to concentrate with her anatomy in full view.

I asked if he felt the same, when the girls he dates dress like that, He said his mother would kill him if he went out with a girl dressed like her. He feels that the girls who dress like that have self-esteem problems and would not be worth the trouble of dating them. (He is 19, going to be a junior at Cornell, premed)

The girl complains about her boyfriend and the type of guys that ask her out. (she is 19, unemployed and has flunked out of college).

Do you think her dress attracts the wrong type of guy.

Maybe your parents are right. Maybe you could compromise on somethings, if youshow them you are responsible. If you expect to wear Abercrombie and Aeropostale, do you expect to pay for them?

well.. you cant really tell your parents to change.. but you can try to negotiate with them and set certain dates. like when it is your _ birthday you can start wearing sleeveless shirts. or something like that.. and until then.. you just really need to accept the fact that things aren't going for a while and at least try to be comfortable with what you are wearing. and when you are around your friends ..if they say something about your clothes don't blame it on your parents be like " well i kinda like it and besides when i turn 14 i can wear sleeveless shirts" .. they won't ever bother you agian about it

Your parents are trying to raise a modest, lady like daughter. Why do you want to look like all of the Brittany wannabes? Have your own style. Do you think that the big stars dress like everyone else? Nope. They decide to look different. You get more attention that way.

Here's how a parent sees it. (Question from another parent)

So I was thinking (read on)?
Everytime I look at music videos with my teenage daughter (she's 16 years old)..it's like the girls on the videos just totally dress like their practically naked!....maybe just a skirt that looks like panties....And I notice alot of teenage girls want to dress just like this in real life...I think it;s so wrong!...I mean who's going to respect these girls when they dress like this??..... should this be normal?...is it just me...feel free to share your thoughts..

When u are old enough to have your own place and pay your own bills then you can wear what ever. If you want to dress sexy u can do so. Most boys do not respect girls who dress like that , but if u like looking like a tramp .then do so some where else, NOT your parents home//
