there is a way to do that.
make up a sentence of only a few words, for example "I am going to become a caring person."
and just keep mentally repeating it to yourself all the time. keep thinking that all the time, except when you are actually using your brain of course.
the point of it is to keep you focused on the issue and it teaches your mind to become more self aware.
essentially, you eventually become so annoyed at yourself for repeating that crap over and over that part of you gives in and changes your behaviour just to get the other part to shut up.

There are hypnosis tapes out on the market that you can relax to and they will help you to hypnotize yourself. I've seen smoking cessation, weight loss, assertiveness and others. I have not seen stop being a meanie tapes, but I'm sure they are out there. Please don't beat me up if they're not.

I believe that hypnotism works to an extent but should only be practiced by a licensed psychologist. It's not impossible.

Well, they showed a study on GMA last week about changing your life through dreaming. When you are falling asleep, think hard about what you want - in your case, picture yourself being super nice, think of "nice" things, etc. They said it can take a couple of weeks to actually start dreaming about it, but you will and it will change how you are in an awake state if you focus on that. Good luck with that. "Mean people suck."
