HI my 13 year old daughtere is getting her tonsils out on monday and she is very overweight. i was wondering if she will have more complications then a regular person and she also has trouble breathing with a touch of asthma she goes on a neubulizer every month. this is what i would like to know. i am very scared ar eher risk higher than a normal child and also will she do better when she gets her tonsils out? asap

Doctors, anesthesiologists and hospitals are not willing to risk medical lawsuits and they would not perform a tonsillectomy if there could be complications, unless it were a medical emergency. Tonsillectomies do not fit into that category.
On the other hand, if something went wrong, your daughter would be exactly where she needs to be : in surgery ! Tonsillectomies are extremely common operations and considered the most common major surgical procedure performed in children. The first one recorded was done in India, in 1000 B.C. Good luck, Mom. Your daughter will be fine.

I am sure that the medical staff willtake into account your daughters' weight and respiratory problems. However, to put yourself at ease (I hope you haven't mentioned your concerns to your daughter or spoken about them within earshot!), ask to speak to the anesthesiologist who will be in the OR - they won't refuse you.
