I find that there are cars in Phoenix that would just pull up in front of me and offer me a ride. They also often stop to offer me rides. Do you know why they do that and should you ever accept a ride from them?? Also, is the gang activity really bad here and unsafe to live here and what are the good and bad areas to look out for??

Thanks.

Doesn't matter where you live, you take great chances taking rides from strangers. Is your life worth less than a bus pass? The reason people do this is unknown, not all people are bad, but how can you tell? I am sure almost everyone here would put up the cash for a new pair of shoes so you can walk before we would ever let you get hurt, or possibley killed by some crazy out there. Be safe! I would go 'round the world to drive my daughter one block before ever letting her get into someones car she did not know, and I would do the same for you! It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. PLEASE BE SAFE.

People in cars offering rides, especially to young girls, is not unique to Phoenix. It can happen anywhere. The chances of them doing harm to you is too great. I am a nice person, and I sometimes feel sorry for kids who are walking out in the heat. I would like to be able to offer them a ride, but I don't want them to get into a habit that can get them hurt another time. Do not accept a ride from a stranger!

Phoenix didn't really get to be a big city until the 1960s, and then it was mostly retirement folks. Most of Phoenix is fairly new development so it is pretty nice. There are some poorer areas where you might find gangs, but there is much less of that compared to other big cities. The areas to stay away from are central and south central Phoenix and the Maryvale area. We have "America's Toughest Sheriff", and our police don't take any crap, so again, the crime is not bad compared to other big cities.
