because they are completely clueless.
they have never had children.
they don't even have any idea of what being a mother or father entails.
they think it just means loving something and being responsible for its well being.
someday, if they do have children, they will understand the difference and probably laugh at their naivety.

Sure, having a pet might be less work and less commitment in terms of time, and the pet won't have the same intellectual capacity as a child, but they are really like little children. They just happen to be short, furry, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly. That doesn't mean they don't have personalities or that they don't love you - they have and do plenty of both. They're great companions and if people choose that over having kids I don't see why not. Personally, I doubt if I'll ever have kids, but I hope I'll always have at least one cat or dog. If you think that makes me an emotional vacuum, that's really your problem, not mine.

As a non-parent (hopefully that will change one day), and a dog-owner, I know that my dogs love me-- every time I come home from anywhere (even if I was on the porch talking to the neighbor), they are sooo excited to see me!
Because I can't have children, they also fill an empty spot in my heart (however inadequately). They are someone I can love, they need me, I provide for their needs, I teach them, etc.
I'm sorry that you are allowing others' attitudes to anger you . Comparing owning a dog to being a parent is the closest analogy that I, personally, have to explain how I feel toward my dogs.
btw- If you want to get up tight about someone's attitude, please find a more important issue.

I disagree, my son is an only child, other then his canine siblings. He learned from them many things, sharing and waiting and responsibility.
He is now 20. He is on his own. He refers to the current dogs as his hairy brothers. The dogs get attention and love and hugs just like he did. I actually think that if we raised out kids more like we raise our dogs, that the world would be better.
My dogs ask for permission before coming on the bed. They wait to be told to eat, they have very good manners. They share toys, one dog would never snarl or take it from the other. They ask permission to go outside, and they do not walk out until they are told to go out.
When they listen, they get hugs and play. I don't have to buy them off with expensive toys or video games. My son did not have a video game until he was 13. He did not expect video games when he did something, he knew how I felt, because I spent time with him.
I love the dogs the same way I loved my son. I know he has tougher decisions to make then the dogs too, but because of his canine siblings, he has better learned how to make them.
The dogs are my kids too. They come with the same responsibliites and joys as a child.
So just chill out.

Let me tell you, I have someone n my life that always tries comparing how it's just as hard having 2 dogs as having 3 little kids under the age of 6.It drives me crazy. Do they have to bathe there dogs every day, clean there ears, clip there nails,do homework, have to pick them up or drive them places, take them to the bus stop, clean there hands ,plates, utensils, everytime there done eating. The list goes on theres no comparison honey! Anyone that tries to say it's harder with dogs,I say come to my house and live here and take care of my three kids.Especially my 1 and 3 year old.Oh and don't forget my six year old.

You become so angry? That is a problem in and of itself. Why would you care so much? Anyway, in answer to your question, many people do not like or want kids, but they love animals. There are many reasons, like never having to listen to a bunch of backtalk or having to bail them out of trouble. After having a pet for a while, they become your "children", except for many people, they are way better. I'm one of them and I don't get why that would make you angry. I'm not angry with you for liking kids better! Learn to accept that not everyone sees things your way. You'll be happier.

Up until very recently I could not have children. So my dog and my cat were my children. I am perfectly clear of the difference between the cat, dog, and a human child. But loneliness, despair, and hopelessness meant a Golden Retriever and a fat cat were my solace and comfort.

Because they have never have children. Its simple ignorance. I know many people who treat their animals like children... its sickening. Its probably why so many people today are screwed up, because they were raised by parents who couldnt tell the difference between a child and a dog.

Usually because they have never had a child, or if they did, something happened that displeased them about the experience. People often feel that way about other pets. Don't be upset. They have love in their hearts for a living creature.

most people love their pets like they'd love a child. My dog is like my sister to me, and one of the most important things in my life. and technically they are people's children, because they "adopt" them, and put as much time and money into them, as they would a child. You shouldn't let it anger you. People love their pets. there is nothing wrong with that. it is better then abusing them, ignoring them, or hating them. dogs want just as much love (if not more) as people do.
