It is funny you should mention Camille. I remember that one well. I'm from Alabama. Frederic too.

My brother called a few hours after my daughter was born and I told him that we had named her Camille. He said, "Oh, just like the hurricane." What a prediction that was! I have been raising my own hurricane ever since.

Hurricane Camille was the 8th biggest storm of the 20th century.

I was in Hurricane Rita(you know, the one with huge evacuation that cars were extended for miles and miles and miles on the highways and stuff). Well not really because i wasn't part of the evacuation. We(my family )went to a relatives house to saty there so incase something happens we would have each other to help out in case something happens. We were about to go though but saw how people on tv said that it took them 16 17 hours to go to dallas which is like a 5-6 hour drive from where we stay so we didn't go. Although there was no food and water at the super markets and the lines there were so long we wated 1-2 hours to be checked out. What an Experience!!!!!!!!!

Yes. A few here in Massachusetts. The two most notable to me were Hurricane Gloria which struck on my 16th birthday and Hurricane Bob which hit while I was volunteering at a week-long overnight camp for special needs kids in NH. THAT was memorable! But I have never, and hope never to, experience the sort of tragedy (on so many levels, this was a tragedy) that has happened in New Orleans.

I moved down to Miami Florida at the start of the worst hurricane season ever last year. We got hit by all the big ones, lost power for weeks at a time, saw massive amounts of destruction, and had just a real fun time. (Note the sarcasm) I just went up to Orlando last week and got hit by Tropical Storm Alberto on the drive. I'm hoping this year is a little less fun with the hurricanes.

Camille....I've heard about that one. Before Katrina that was the standard for damage in Mississippi. Hurricane would hit and everyone would say, "well its not as bad as Camille" or "Well I made it though Camille I can make it though anything." Now people say that about Katrina.

I lost count, most while living in Japan. Typhoons there (same as hurricanes) are given numbers (which are harder to remember than names) but category 4 or 5 is called "Super typhoon". I lived through several Supers and several "normal" ones.

Where I was, houses are generally made from concrete, so rarely is anyone hurt. We should try concrete in hurricane-prone areas of USA!

Where I live they are called Typhoons, and we caught the tail end of Typhoon Freida in 1964, I think, when I was 6 or 7. It was wild and it sounded like a freight train going by for hours on end. That was on the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada.

Not an actual hurricane, but I lived in Houston when we got Tropical Storm Allison a few years ago- about 5000 inches of rain!!! I have been in a tornado when I lived in Nebraska- that was COOL!!! But cleaning up afterwards, seeing all the destruction, that was NOT cool.
