Those americans pissed me off!!! Why did it end that way, I mean just one goal and what a difference would it have made! and that goal in the italian goal, oh god

Hey Sabrina,
The referee happened to that game. He ruined what was looking like being a really good match.Now I am an Aussie that outside of my Socceroo's has followed Italy loyally since before the 2002 WC. The disallowed goal was a bad decision, I do not see the offside play that was cited, however The USA rose to the occasion today and the bad sportsmanship shown by De Rossi (sorry if I got that wrong) deserved the red card and he made it very hard on the rest of the team. There was no need for that and I was embarrassed for the Italian side. The referee's handling of the entire game was one of the most pitiful and inconsistent displays thus far.I hope he is demoted. It would have been a great game without his presence.

Well, games are 90 minutes long, and compared to other sports, soccer doesn't offer many subs allowed during games. Italy lost 1 player but US lost 2. Playing with 9 players for the rest of second half is very tiring. Its still amazing that US team held on to the tie, and you should be grateful for that.

don't worry... italy had only 4 points after 3 games in the 1994 world cup I believe.. and made it all the way to the final. Italy is known to not win every game in the group stage and pick it up in the knockouts.

The referee called for offside because American player was distracting the play. He was in offside position and the Italian goalkeeper couldn't see the ball because of him standing there. He influenced the game from the offside position. USA played great btw

You are right -- Italy was a terrible disappointment, and (in spite of the overly-optimistic opinion above) will be lucky to move to the second round.

it is ok if it is a draw but the refree did cheating , the second goal was there he did not give it
i am damn angry
Italy will win the world cup though

to answer mary c ...it the US was that good they would of scored a goal for themselves instead of tieing due to the fact that the opponent accidently scored in his own goal !

It was a goal nevertheless. Please don't understimate the U.S. If Italy were a btter team they would have no problem scoring another goal ... or two.
