I had left them in the garage and they developed surface rust on the bottom.

Use a sharpening stone to get the initial rust off. Be sure to dry your skates after each use.

I also use a blade sock, which is piece of towel like material that has an elastic band sown into it. I wrap the blade with that after wiping it down.

If you're going to store your skates for an extended period of time, you can hit the blades with a coat of WD-40 as well. That will keep them from rusting.

Dry off the blades with your sock after you use them. This will prevent the rust so you dont get into this pickle again.

try getting them sharpened..........or perhaps a new pair of skates if they're so old.........
