I have a website and I want to create a mobile version for viewing on cell phones. I know there is a way to hyperlink a phone number so that when you highlight the number, the phone will recognize it and “ask” you if you want to dial the number. I need the html tag that will allow this to be done. Thanks

okay, do you have a cell phone with web access? Go online and go to www.yahoo.com. Go to search and just type in something and click the local tab. It will ask you what city and type in your city. then it will display some businesses with telephone numbers. When you highlight the telephone number, your phone will ask you if you want to dial the number. it may do it differently on eat phone. on my phone, if i highlight a normal hyperlink, my nav button will say "go". but if i highlight a phone number, then it says "call" and clicking it does just that. that's what i need to accomplish.

it's very simple.

(555) 555-5555
obviously 555-555-5555 is not a real number. lol

Hmm I dont think this could be done with just HTML. Youre sort of mimicking a modem access type of interface like how AOL asks the user to choose a local number for dialup. That wasnt just done in HTML. I think you can use javascript for it, but I dont think javascript can be scripted to use your computer modem to dial a number. How will your webpage know how to find your modem without installing some sort of inner active X control to locate it?

I think its definitely more involved than just html. Ive coded with html and javascript for nearly 12 years and I never heard of such a task before but if I find out about it, I will definitely come back to this post.
