Personally, I would say no as our foreign policy has historically been an extension of US corporate interests since the Spanish-American War and in earlier times the cover for the wealthy to steal land. The neocon corporatists had their eyes set on Iraq years before 911. 911 provided the rationale to invade Afghanistan for the payback. The next move (invasion and occupation of Iraq) can only be explained as a continuation of our historical foreign policy because the rationales this government paraded before us did not make one bit of sense to me.
It's about the oil or actually the ability to curtail production enough for record profits for oil companies and prices at the pump that the sheep do not like.

Ummm. NO. We have taken a isolationist view on foreign countries for a long time. It seemed that what changed that around was the past couple of decades. If you look back on the last real war, World War 2 you will notice that we did not want to get involved because it did not directly effect us. I think that the US thinks of itself as big brother, and protector of all. When infact we can't even defend ourselves when we have several Presidental Daily Briefings stating how "Bin Laden Determined To Strike Within The US".

I think 9/11 really put some people back on their heels, and it's definitely made people re-think issues like immigration, and how we deal with other countries, and this whole NAFTA and globalization thing, and and and and. People condemn isolationism, but it does have its' points....too bad we now have foreigners and friends of friends of friends of foreigners now voting money to them...

It was the watershed insofar as the US realizes that it, too, can be devastatingly affected in its own heartland by its actions in other countries.
