Am I damaging my hip?

After being Xrayed a few months ago, my doctor told me my right hip needs replacing( I had surgery on it as a teenager).
I'm in my thirties now and have been putting of the operation.
My question is, am I damaging my hip further by delaying the operation?.

At you age,you probably dont need a total hip replacement, you can get birmingham hip resurfacing surgery. Its a newer technique(4 years old) and well suited for young patients like you.
It is available in UK and India only. Not available in USA.With this surgery you can easily remain pain free for 10 to 15 years and then later plan your total hip replacement aftert that. Two of my patients got hip surgery in India through one company called forerunners healthcare. One was a candidate for total hip replacement and the other was a candidate for hip resurgacing.
Both are doing extremely fine since 1 year.

I strongly recommend you to get your hip surgery in India. You will save lots of money.Orthopaedic surgery is very cheap in India. This company is very famous in India that arranges orthopaedic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as all surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your hip surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin also got her knee surgery for acl repair in India through the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

You have to be very careful because by prolonging you are putting the vessels around at risk, the bones are rubbing each other which can even lead to arthritis. Go for the replacement as soon as possible otherwise you will end up having a long pin going down the leg (femur) for support to your damaged hip.

My best idea is that with your age you still have a lot to live for and yes the delay is hurting you i would highly suggest the surgery, after u turn to some close relatives of Friends for there opinions

Ask the consultant if the top of the femur, the ball joint section, is all that will be repaced, or is the pelvic socket actually suffering any wear at the moment? If the problem is only with your femur, then delay is not likely to cause any problems, other than your continued, worsening discomfort.

yes to a degree.. your thigh bone leg bone will have more stress. now a days they have better hip replacements. you will need to build up your blood with iron to save your blood I suggest and let hospital freeze it for safety of foreign blood transfusions.. use your own. have someone to help you .. at home. I assume you had a bone dentsity test as well?

I would definately direct these questions to your Dr. as these should not be answered by any ole lay person. I am a nurse and I'm not comfortable answering this question!

Your hip is only getting worse with time. Any time you put off repairing it, is time your hip is getting slowly worse.
Don't put if off any longer that you have to.
