If USA had lost today,we will still have chances, slim, but they exist. Lets check:
Previos to the game:
Italy 3 points (1 win )
Czech 3 points (1 win )
Ghana 0 points
USA 0 point
Assuming a win of Italy over USA and the win of Ghana, we have
Right now the positions are:
Italy 6 points (2 win) ==> advances
Czech 3 points (1 win): goal difference +1
Ghana 3 points (1 win) : goal diference: 0
USA 0 point (0 win): goal diference: -3
USA has to win al least 3:0 to Ghana (for every goal by Ghana against USA, the US needs another goal from that score).
Alto to have chance to advance Italy must win over Czech (a draw is no good, because Czech will advance) with at least 2 goals
Italy 9 points (2 win) ==> advances
USA 3 points (1 win) goal diference: 0
Czech 3 points (1 win): goal difference -1 (lost 2-0 vs Italy)
Ghana 3 points (1 win) : goal diference: -3 (lost 3-0 vs USA)

The FIFA World Cup begins with a group stage, therefor, any loss in the first three games, can't knock-out the team instantly. On the other hand, more than one loss ensures that you will be going home after the group stage. Because the USA had only lost once, there was still a chance for them to qualify and progress past the group stage.

Because they can be the second of the group with 4 points with Italy leading with 7 points if they win over Ghana and Czech Republic losing to Italy. then the standings would be like this:

They still have one game to play against Ghana before the final standings of each group. After that the top 2 teams of each group move on to the next level.

um cuz italy still has to play their opponent,....they would of been kicked out if they lost wouldnt they? im not sure but go to www.espn.com and they tell you.
