hours at any time when you get called.. or usually schelduled?

Not normally, they are by-appointment. But some are "on-call."

I know a psychiatrist who is working for the local University - he is obligated to teach some higher level classes at the university, and there are times when he is on-call, but he also has his own practice with regular hours... and I've seen him cancel meetings with patients and stuff if need be.

But he is pretty deep in his career; I'm not sure what it's like starting out.

Soemtimes they work a all night shift where calls of emergency status are transferred to them. Other than that they work an 8-10 hour shift Monday-Friday

it's usually scheduled but incase of an emergency they can get called for example if there patient is threatening to commit suicide

we psychiatrists dont like to call'em "crazy" hours
if u get my meaning
we prefer a more clinical term "bonkers"
