You may need a lawer to draw up official papers to submit to Companies House.

Depending on your expected turnover, you may feel it worthwhile registering with Customs & Excise for VAT returns.

Again, depending on the value of equipement etc. required in the business, it may not be worth your while becoming a Limited Company - an Accountant would advise you.

There are a lot of things to do if you going to be a Limited company or VAT registered, as you need to register your company with companies house and registered for VAT, simple advice is to use an accountant who can take care of these for you.

If you are a sole trader, you just need to start up your company and trade away, but still need to inform the IR, again, an accountant or a bookkeeper can take care of these for you.

As to copyright your work, it really depend on the type of work you are in.
