My husband and I both work, and we pay all of our bills together.
We consider the money we bring in to be "Our" money. Not his and hers.
It works great for us.
Peace!

Do you mean who puts up the money? Or do you mean who writes the checks?

A husband and wife should both put the money in for bills, unless there are very small children to be taken care of so she cannot yet hold a job.

The one who actually writes the checks and gets them sent in time should be the one who does the best job of taking care of it.

In my house, it was always me. My husband was a procrastinator and we would have been paying constant late charges if it were him.

We put our money in a joint account. My husband usually pays the bills online. He's better with that stuff than I am. However, I have no problem with doing it myself. Years ago, he was on a disability pension because he couldn't work. We arranged for him to pay the bills because then he felt he was contributing something more to the relationship (rather than having me work plus have to pay all the bills).

If one of them is the bread winner, then they pay for the bills. Or if both of them makes a living, they can come up with a mutual agreement on who pays what bills.

Me and my girlfriend both have our careers. I'm a business man with some success, so I earned more than she does. A year ago she quit her job and started her own business (fashion design). She went without income for a full year. But we were always together, and I tried to help her the best I could. Today she is an independent and successful business woman.

Basically it doesn't matter who earns the most.

We do all of it together. We have the same account and both of our pay checks go in to it; all the bills, grocery shopping, etc... come out of it and we consider all money as our money. We discus all expenditures and then handle them together so that we both know were the money goes and we have no secrets.
