In Japan high platform boots called geta, often 4-6 inches in height, were worn so the ladies expensive kimono would not drag in the mud. Platforms were also worn in the Greek theatre so people sitting far from the stage could see the people on stage, and to act as a representation of the characters importance above the audience.

No, I believe it came from riding. You need heeled shoes for riding to help prevent the stirrup from coming off your foot. The cavalry men wore them. The heel was stylized and made higher to become part of their dress uniform. Because owning and maintaining a horse takes money, the cavalry were also nobility. They wore their dress uniforms (heels included) to court, where the fasion caught on among men. Then later Catherine de Medici got a pair in part for style and in part because she was short. Eventually high heels transferred from a men's fashion to a women's.

Catherine de Medici was the first to wear them (designed especially for her)--and simply for fashion. It gave her a sexy, undulating walk to impress the French on a visit.

And the main fashion item that came from the fact that English streets used to have open sewers was the "spice ball", a ball filled with cloves and other aromatic spices worn on a chain around the waist of women, to counteract the pungent aroma.

It goes back to the ancient Ottoman empire , where the conquered Euorpean men used to **** in the Ottoman mosques as a sort of protest at their occupation. Eventually women too, began to wear high heeled shoes in order to display their feminity, as we all know, nothing like a fine filly in high heels.

No - high heels were originally developed 500 years ago for horse riders to prevent their feet slipping from the stirrups.

Read the history of the high heel at this wikipedia page - it's quite interesting!
