My computer has been freezing up and turning off a lot lately, and I had thought it might had been a virus or needing a new fan in my CPU, but I noticed last night that whenever my phone rang, my computer would freeze up and shut off. My phone was on the same desk as my computer, I then moved the phone across the room and my computer hasn't froze or turned off now a while, does anybody know the cause of this?

That's typical of dial up service, on Windows 98 computers. with later computers, you'd still lose your internet connectin, but you wont get teh freezing. There is sa device, that allows a computer to be online with out interfering with the phone, but I'm not sure how it works, or what's it's called. But someplace I some times vounteer, used to have one.

Aha you have discovered the wonders of magnetism. The phone bell uses a small magnet to ring. If it is too close to a computer it can cause all kinds of problems. You are lucky it only froze, it is possible to wipe a hard drive with magnetism and you could have corrupted some software. the phone should be a couple of feet away from the computer and, if it was and was causing a problem, buy a new phone with an electronic ringer rather than a bell - the problem will not reoccur.

its no longer ruined, i had the comparable subject with my pc making use of dsl. in the beginning, verify the telephone line filters to be particular theyre in place. then, in case you're spitting your connection on your pc with a telephone, attempt to commit a line on your pc with out connecting a telephone to the comparable line. finally, if all this fails, replace your cordless telephone with a distinctive frequency form. case in point, my pc had problems with my 900mhz telephone so i switched to a 2.4ghz form and the concern went away. sturdy success, sweetie.
