If you are planning on putting it into the mains, and it is a new installation, then it has to be done by a tradesman or if you do a DIY job a certificate must be issued by a suitably qualified electrician. This is a new law though(effective early in 2005) and, while I cannot condone it, people are still installing new installations and claiming that they were put in in 2003!!!!
