speaking personally, i'd love to be able to say that no - marijuana isn't bad for you (because that would make my life easier), but sadly it is.
if you smoke it, it affects your lungs the same way tobacco does - by damaging the small sacs of your lungs that convert the air you breathe to oxygen carriable in your blood. some doctors think it's worse because when you smoke pot, you tend to hold it in for longer, prolonging the effect of the drug but also causing more damage to your lungs.
while you're stoned, your blood pressure drops. i've fainted a couple of times from this.
also while you're stoned, your reaction time is slower because your brain takes longer to process information. this is a direct result of the THC in your system.
and if you smoke pot for a long time? like, years? there are cases of people who are already prone to mental illness having their problems caused/exacerbated by using marijuana. schizophrenia, paranoid delusions, general paranoia, loss of motivation - these are all potential side effects of long term use. i've known quite a few people who've been kind of destroyed just from pot.
and then of course, there's the old argument that using pot leads to using other drugs. i'm not sure about this, but most people i know who smoke pot also try other stuff. i mean, a lot of us probably tried it cause we were bored with alcohol, right??
at the end of the day, most things in life are bad for you when you do them to excess. moderation is the name of the game. remember that and enjoy a toke or two in peace : )

It's no more dangerous than cigarettes, and less harmful than alcohol. It only became illegal under Prohibition. When the Volstead Act was repealed, the lumber barons of the day feared hemp because it could make a cheaper paper. So they - and the politicians who counted on their money - began the "smear" campaign against it. People have been using it globally for a couple thousand years. Not a single person has ever died from "THC overdose".

I think that the only negative effect is the fact that after getting high the person high just wants to sit and chill. Otherwise when taken in a responsible manner (like not while driving or not while at school or work) it is a great stress reliever, headache reliever, pain reducer.
Considering marijuana is organic and natural, while most medicines you find in a drug store are not (and have side-effects such as stroke, blood clot, depression, etc...) I think it is a healthy alternative.
I also think that those people who are totally against marijuana are also those people who do not refrain from taking an asprin (which can cause Rye's Syndrome)
I think marijuana is actually good for your health. My grandma smoked it for all of her 96 years.
Back in the early days of America, the "cowboys" would drink alcohol, and fight. The "indians" would smoke, and be calm, and get along.
Yet alcohol is legal.
People think that everyone who gets "high" is stupid. Well ladies, take a few Midol, and see how you feel. Same effect. As for killing brain cells, your cell phone does that for you anyhow. So does the radiation from your microwave.
The only reason Marijuana isn't legal is because the government could never tax it.
There has never been a direct death from overdose of marijuana, yes smoking and driving is bad, but taking one too many asprin does the same thing. Cough medicine makes you drowsy... so dont tell me anything that alters your mind is bad for you.

No. It's not bad for your health when done in moderation. Problem is it's illegal.

I think the results of all studies about mary jane are manipulated to proove the individual's point of view. I wish I could know the answer. All I know is that some people get really stupid on pot, but I somehow manage to keep my head...

it depends on the body type. i am allergic to it. My body swells up really bad and i get a headache. yeah, i have fun, but i had to quit because it makes me VERY sick. I get dizzy and sometimes nauseated and i hear and see stuff. POT is NOT good for ME. My friends made fun of me because even the second hand smoke gets a reaction from me. They call it the "contact high" Yep, it's real...

If it alters your brain chemistry while you are driving a vehicle it is bad for you. If you have an addictive personality it is bad for you. If you have respritory problems it is bad for you. If you are barely acquainted with reality it is bad for you. If you don't mind jails it probably isn't that bad for you
