The US has to beat Ghana and Italy has to beat the Czech's.
OR
The US has to beat Ghana by four goals and have more goals scored total than the Czech's and Italy ties the Czech's.
OR
The US has to beat Ghana by five goals and Italy ties the Czech's.
The first scenario is obviously the most plausible.

Win from Italy vs Czech, and a win from USA vs Ghana
EXPLANATION:
Right now the positions are:
Italy 4 points (1 win + 1 draw)
Czech 3 points (1 win): in second place for goal difference +1
Ghana 3 points (1 win) in third place for goal difference 0
USA 1 point (1 draw)
We have the next game of the group, being played at the same hour in diferent cities, so none of the teams could speculate with the results (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT). So:
Italy should win against Czech Republic and
USA should win against Ghana , and the positions will be
Italy 7 points (2 win + 1 draw)
USA 4 point (1 win + 1 draw)
Czech 3 points (1 win)-the position depens of the goal difference
Ghana 3 points (1 win)-the position depens of the goal difference
Italy and USA pass to the next round
So with a little help from our friends ITALY, we USA will have our own faith in our hands
The minimum that Italy needs, to go to the round of 16 is a draw with Czech, but the Czech need to win, because a draw means that if Ghana win they are out. So Czech is going to play to win, and Italy needs to play to win, to asure themself at least a draw (This happens because all of them plays at the same time, and don't now how the outcoming of the other game).
So Italy will play to win (Czech will go for the victory and so is Ghana and USA) because if they don't do it, then at the end they could be one of the teams left behind.

Goal differential, US has -3. The US sucks and will never advance, even if Ghana and the Czechs got food poisoning they still wouldn't advance.

you're right....US will finish on 4 points, and Italy on 7 points...however, think of the next game, it could be USA vs. Brazil!
